Joel Seligman, Rochester’s new president, will be formally installed as the University’s top leader on Sunday, October 23, during a day of events held in conjunction with the last day of the College’s Meliora Weekend.

The University-wide ceremony in Eastman Theatre will publicly mark the beginning of Seligman’s tenure as the 10th president in Rochester’s 155-year history.

Also on October 23, the University will host a panel of prominent university leaders, including Amy Gutmann, president of the University of Pennsylvania, John Sexton, president of New York University, Lee Bollinger, president of Columbia University, and William Peck ’60M (MD), former executive vice chancellor for medical affairs at Washington University in St. Louis, for a discussion on issues in higher education.

Hugo Sonnenschein ’61, president emeritus and a professor of economics at the University of Chicago, will moderate the panel.

Seligman, the dean of the law school at Washington University in St. Louis, was selected by the Board of Trustees last December to become Rochester’s next leader. He succeeds Thomas H. Jackson, who steps down June 30 after serving as president since 1994.

Seligman officially begins his duties on July 1. For more information on the inauguration, visit www.rochester.edu/ inauguration.

Meliora Weekend, the College’s annual fall event that brings to campus a wide-ranging roster of invited speakers to celebrate alumni reunion and homecoming, kicks off Friday, October 21, and concludes Sunday, October 23.
