President Feldman is reconfiguring two groups focused on diversity—the Presidential Diversity Council (PDC) and related Presidential Diversity Council Implementation Committee (PDCIC)—to incorporate the individuals most focused on diversity work in each unit. The PDC will be disbanded and the senior leaders who made up the PDC will discuss issues of diversity regularly at Cabinet meetings.
A new group, the University Diversity and Equity Council (UDEC), will be formed to collaborate, share best practices, report on progress, and identify University priorities, goals, and requirements. The group will be an ongoing committee, eventually to be chaired by a chief diversity officer. President Richard Feldman will serve as chair of the UDEC until a permanent University-wide diversity leader is appointed.
While the group will be advisory, its membership would review all significant actions. Decision-making will rest with others, such as the Faculty Senate, trustees, deans, and the president. Because the UDEC will be a relatively large council, it also will be useful to create a smaller executive committee to meet as needed.
The executive committee will function as an advisory group to the president and will review recommendations and ideas coming from the various sources around campus. For the near term, the work of the executive committee will be focused on the Independent Investigation Report recommendations and response.
