Campaign Passes $1 Billion Mark

The University is moving into the final phase of its first comprehensive fundraising initiative on a historic note, reaching the $1 billion mark this fall. The milestone places Rochester among a handful of universities that have raised at least $1 billion and moves the University closer to the $1.2 billion goal set for The Meliora Challenge in 2011. A newly published mathematical model suggests that the stars at the center of the Milky Way move in a peanut-shaped or figure-eight pattern, helping to explain the iconic bulge at the core of the galaxy and providing insight into how galaxies are formed and evolve. Read more . . .

AIDS Posters Go Online

One of the world’s largest collections of AIDS posters, housed at River Campus Libraries, is available online, marking the culmination of a multiyear project. The collection includes more than 6,200 posters from 124 countries in 68 languages and dialects. Read more . . .

Celebrate the Holidays at the MAG

Rochester alumni, parents, and friends are invited to a holiday celebration at the Memorial Art Gallery from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, December 7. Hear from Grant Holcomb, the Mary W. and Donald R. Clark Director of the Memorial Art Gallery, listen to music performed on the Eastman School’s 18th-century Italian Baroque organ, and enjoy both docent-led and self-guided tours of the gallery’s exhibitions.
