Historic Economic Development Award Celebrated


The Finger Lakes region has been awarded $500 million for economic development projects as part of Governor Andrew Cuomo's Upstate Revitalization Initiative competition. University President and CEO Joel Seligman and Wegmans Food Markets CEO Danny Wegman, cochairs of the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council, thanked Cuomo and state legislators for supporting the council's plan, which focuses on three strategic industry sectors—optics, photonics, and imaging; agriculture and food processing; and next generation manufacturing and technology. "We cannot overstate our enthusiasm at this historic opportunity to transform our region’s economy," Seligman and Wegman said in a joint statement. Read more...

Alumnus Chosen for Schwarzman Scholars Program


Jintian (Jay) Li ’12 is part of the inaugural class of Schwarzman Scholars, an international fellowship established “to prepare the next generation of global leaders.” The program was created by philanthropist Stephen Schwarzman, who donated $100 million to create the one-year master’s program in Beijing, China, beginning in August. The inaugural class includes students from 32 countries and 71 universities, with 44 percent from the United States, 21 percent from China, and 35 percent from the rest of the world. Eastman School Artists Earn Grammy Nominations


Nominees for the 58th annual Grammy Awards include Eastman School faculty members Paul O'Dette (pictured), professor of lute; Nathan Laube, assistant professor of organ; and Dave Rivello, assistant professor of jazz studies. Also nominated are Bob Ludwig '66E, '01E (MM), Maria Schneider '85E (MM), John Fedchock '85E (MM), Kristian Bezuidenhout '01E, '04E (MM), Martha Cluver '03E, and Eric Dudley '01E. Winners will be announced February 15 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Read more...
