{"id":5026,"date":"2017-08-16T21:21:33","date_gmt":"2017-08-16T21:21:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bferrign.wdev.rochester.edu\/uhs\/?page_id=5026"},"modified":"2018-09-17T20:27:30","modified_gmt":"2018-09-17T20:27:30","slug":"patient-rights-and-responsibilities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/uhs\/primary-care\/about-us\/confidentiality-and-patient-rights\/patient-rights-and-responsibilities\/","title":{"rendered":"Patient Rights and Responsibilities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To assure our patients are treated in a manner recognizing their basic human rights, the University Health Service has established the following <em>Statement of Patient Rights and Responsibilities<\/em>:<\/p>\n<h2>Patient Rights<\/h2>\n<p>Patients have a right to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be treated with respect, dignity, and privacy in a caring manner in a clean, safe, smoke-free environment.<\/li>\n<li>Receive treatment without discrimination as to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and\/or expression, or source of payment.<\/li>\n<li>Have a second staff member in the room when being examined.<\/li>\n<li>Confidentiality regarding their care and records and to authorize or refuse the release of their records, except when required by law or in a life-threatening situation.<\/li>\n<li>Know the name and credentials of those caring for them.<\/li>\n<li>Ask questions and participate in all decisions involving their care and treatment unless not advisable for medical reasons. Review their medical records and obtain copies of their records.<\/li>\n<li>Receive complete information about their diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis in a language they can understand, including timely assessment and treatment of pain.<\/li>\n<li>Be advised of the possible risks, benefits, side effects, and alternative methods of treatment.<\/li>\n<li>Be informed of the medical consequences of refusing treatment.<\/li>\n<li>Patients have the right to change providers or request a second medical opinion. Patients may be referred outside UHS for second opinions.<\/li>\n<li>Refuse to participate in research.<\/li>\n<li>Voice concerns or complaints about care to any staff person, verbally or in writing without fear of reprisal.<\/li>\n<li>Receive information about:\n<ul>\n<li>Services available and after hours\/emergency coverage.<\/li>\n<li>Fees for services, payment policies, and their financial obligation.<\/li>\n<li>Resources for health education, self-care, and prevention of illness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Patients\u2019 Responsibilities<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Patients have a responsibility to:<\/li>\n<li>Provide accurate and complete information, to the best of their ability.<\/li>\n<li>Follow instructions and ask questions when they do not understand their care, treatment, or service.<\/li>\n<li>Follow the care, treatment, and service plan and express any concerns about their ability to follow the proposed care plan or course of action.<\/li>\n<li>Accept the outcomes if they do not follow the care, treatment, and service plan.<\/li>\n<li>Follow rules and regulations, i.e., keep appointments, notify office if unable to keep an appointment, provide accurate insurance information, and pay bills for services received if not covered by insurance.<\/li>\n<li>Show respect and consideration for other patients, staff, and property.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To assure our patients are treated in a manner recognizing their basic human rights, the University Health Service has established the following Statement of Patient Rights and Responsibilities: Patient Rights&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":16,"featured_media":0,"parent":4996,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-5026","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
