{"id":71312,"date":"2022-02-18T18:53:32","date_gmt":"2022-02-18T18:53:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/uhs\/?page_id=71312"},"modified":"2026-03-25T11:01:46","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T15:01:46","slug":"counselor-in-residence-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/uhs\/ucc\/crisis-services\/counselor-in-residence-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Counselor in Residence Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/uhs\/ucc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University Counseling Center<\/a>\u00a0(UCC), the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/public-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Public Safety<\/a>\u00a0(DPS), and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/reslife\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Office of Residential Life<\/a>\u00a0have collaborated to develop the Counselor in Residence (CIR) Program. The program is designed to provide in-person mental health support during evenings and weekends when UCC is closed. The CIRs are trained and supervised by UCC licensed staff and have three main purposes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Support for After-Hours Mental Health Emergencies: <\/strong>CIRs are available overnight and on weekends during the academic year. During their shifts they will accompany Public Safety Officers on any mental health-related calls that DPS receives. They may also provide onsite support to Residential Life and UCC on-call providers. <strong>To reach a CIR, please call DPS (585-275-3333), UCC (585-275-3113), or contact your RA.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Drop-In Hours Fall 2025<\/strong>: The CIRs hold late evening office hours in a Residence Hall office\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/uhs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Wilder17.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Wilder 111<\/strong><\/a> on weeknights. Students can drop by for help connecting with resources, learning how to help a friend, or for just for supportive conversations.
