The Student Health Program consists of two components: the Mandatory Health Fee and the UR Student Health Insurance Plan (Aetna).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p4\"><b>Mandatory Health Fee<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p3\">The mandatory health fee assures the availability of accessible, high quality health care services on campus for all full-time University of Rochester students. All full-time students pay the mandatory health fee, which covers care and services provided by the University Health Service (UHS) and the University Counseling Center (UCC) at their offices.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p5\"><b>What Does it Cost?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p3\">The mandatory health fee for the <strong>2025-2026 academic year is $960<\/strong>, which appears on your tuition billing statement.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p5\"><b>What is Covered?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p6\"><b>Medical Care:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li7\">Unlimited primary care visits with physicians, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses at UHS.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\">Unlimited visits to treat illnesses and injuries, evaluation and management of on-going medical conditions, gynecologic care, allergy injections, immunization administration, nutritional services and the care and advice for any health concern.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p6\"><b>Mental Health:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li9\">Visits with UHS psychiatrists for assessment and medication management (with a referral from a UHS primary care provider or a UCC therapist)<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li9\">A comprehensive initial assessment, an individualized treatment plan, and support to put such a plan into action provided by the <span class=\"s3\">UCC <\/span>on an individual, couples, or group basis<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li10\">UHS physician and UCC mental health professional on call 24 hours\/day, 7 days\/week<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p6\"><b>Health Promotion:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p6\">Health education and health promotion services provided by the University Student Life Office of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/uhs\/healthpromotion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s4\"><b>Health Promotion<\/b><\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"p6\">Public health and disease prevention programs<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Please Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A change of status\u2014such as a deferral, withdrawal, leave of absence, or reduction in course load\u2014will impact your eligibility for coverage under the Mandatory Health Fee and therefore access to UHS services. Full-Time graduating students will have access to UHS services and Mandatory Health Fee coverage through July 31\u00a0(January 31\u00a0for Fall Graduates).<\/p>\n<p>Please contact\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:insurance@uhs.rochester.edu\"><strong>insurance@uhs.rochester.edu<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0prior to making these types of registration changes to obtain additional information from our Insurance Advisors regarding the impact on eligibility, access, and any related health fees<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p13\"><b>Student Health Insurance<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\">Students must have health insurance coverage for services such as visits to specialists, hospitalization, surgical procedures, diagnostic laboratory tests, x-rays, athletic injuries, flu shots, immunizations, physical therapy, and prescription medications. These services are not covered by the mandatory health fee.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p14\"><b>Enroll or Waive?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">You can enroll in the UR Student Health Insurance Plan, or you can waive the health insurance if your own insurance plan meets <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/uhs\/primary-care\/mandatory-health-fee\/insurance-criteria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>University insurance criteria<\/b><\/a>. Every year you must complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/students.aetnastudenthealth.com\/welcome.aspx?groupid=686156\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Online Health Insurance Process <\/b><\/a>\u00a0to enroll or waive. Requests to waive the UR Student Health Insurance Plan may be audited to assure compliance with University insurance criteria. If you choose to remain on your own health insurance, you are financially responsible for expenses not covered by your insurance plan.
