{"id":17242,"date":"2025-09-29T08:59:05","date_gmt":"2025-09-29T12:59:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/university-research\/?p=17242"},"modified":"2025-09-29T08:59:05","modified_gmt":"2025-09-29T12:59:05","slug":"reminder-and-updates-nsf-research-security-training-requirements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/university-research\/reminder-and-updates-nsf-research-security-training-requirements\/","title":{"rendered":"Reminder and Updates: NSF Research Security &#038; Training Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear colleagues,<\/p>\n<p>This message serves as an update to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/university-research\/update-nsf-research-security-training-requirements\/\">communication<\/a> we sent earlier this summer regarding National Science Foundation (NSF) research security and training requirements:<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Reminder: Research Security Training<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Effective October 10<sup>th<\/sup>, 2025<\/strong>, all <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__https:\/www.nsf.gov\/policies\/pappg\/24-1\/ch-2-exhibit-3__;!!CGUSO5OYRnA7CQ!deYTvCOpB3x58boSqE-WfjBWBwcPkWa-fqfSifkJrPPAUBUBvtD34k5fzlC2zj-PcsWV58OUREG97r0yO6xt7nttIb-2IBfjy9kbKm5L9JMYypVG$\">senior\/key personnel<\/a> (e.g. PIs, Co-PIs, project directors, co-project directors, and Faculty Associates) identified in an NSF proposal must certify to NSF that they have completed Research Security training within one year prior to the proposal submission.<\/p>\n<p>All PIs, faculty, and other senior\/key personnel currently engaged or planning to be engaged in NSF-funded research should complete Research Security <strong>training by October 10, 2025<\/strong>. ORPA will not submit an NSF proposal if training has not been completed.<\/p>\n<p>Research Security training is accessible in <a href=\"https:\/\/mypath.rochester.edu\/\">MyPath<\/a> by searching for \u201cResearch Security\u201d in the search bar (approx. 1 hour, 35 minutes). For more information on research security, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/university-research\/compliance\/research-security\/training\/\">Office of Vice President for Research website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Completion of the University\u2019s MyPath Research Security training will be recognized by all federal agencies currently requiring such training. Training does not need to be repeated solely due to funding from multiple agencies; however, frequency of completion may vary by agency.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Update: Required Documentation<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The University plans to utilize Box to assist University Departments in collecting and maintaining supporting documentation, including copies of contracts, grants, or any other agreement specific to foreign appointments, employment with a foreign institution, or participation in a foreign talent recruitment program and other information reported as Current and Pending (Other) Support for all senior\/key personnel that are identified in federal award applications, regardless of federal funding agency.<\/p>\n<p>More information regarding this Box solution will be made available soon.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Update: Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR) Training<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NSF has updated its requirements for Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR) training to incorporate research security topics. The University\u2019s CITI RECR modules will be updated accordingly.
