{"id":20342,"date":"2026-01-05T13:04:51","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T18:04:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/university-research\/?p=20342"},"modified":"2026-01-05T13:04:51","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T18:04:51","slug":"updates-research-misconduct-policy-ithenticate-2-0","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/university-research\/updates-research-misconduct-policy-ithenticate-2-0\/","title":{"rendered":"Updates: Research Misconduct Policy &#038; iThenticate 2.0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear colleagues,<\/p>\n<p>Please see two updates from the Office of Research Integrity, Stewardship &amp; Ethics (ORISE).<\/p>\n<p><strong>1) Revised Policy on Research Misconduct (effective January 1, 2026)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The University\u2019s revised <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/policies\/policy\/policy-on-research-misconduct\/\">Policy on Research Misconduct<\/a>\u00a0is now posted on the Policies &amp; Procedures site and is effective January 1, 2026. This update aligns the University\u2019s process with revised federal requirements that apply to allegations received on or after January 1, 2026, and consolidates our approach into a single, University-wide standard.<\/p>\n<p>The University <a href=\"mailto:sonyah@rochester.edu\">Research Integrity Officer (RIO)<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/university-research\/research-integrity-stewardship-ethics\/\">ORISE<\/a>\u00a0serve as neutral resources for faculty, trainees, and staff &#8211; available to explain the process, answer questions, and help ensure procedural fairness. Please contact ORISE with any questions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) iThenticate 2.0 upgrade (action requested for current users)<\/strong><br \/>\nThe University has successfully completed an upgrade to iThenticate 2.0.\u00a0Key enhancements include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>AI writing detection\u00a0(available with iThenticate 2.0)<\/li>\n<li>Enhanced similarity checking\u00a0(including the ability to automatically exclude preprints, and easier identification of hidden text\/replaced characters via the Flags Panel)<\/li>\n<li>Improved collaboration\u00a0(share folders with user groups)<\/li>\n<li>Modern, accessible design\u00a0(streamlined user experience aligned with current global standards)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are a current user, you should have received an email titled \u201cWelcome to iThenticate\u201d\u00a0from <strong><a href=\"mailto:noreply@turnitin.com\">noreply@turnitin.com<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0inviting you to activate your iThenticate 2.0 account. Please ensure you <strong>activate your account<\/strong>.
