As part of our connection to the City of Rochester as it pertains to different aspects of urban education, we now partner with programs that expand our focus to extend across the spectrum of student experiences and age levels, thus improving educational outcomes and strengthening our commitment to equity and excellence in Rochester and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>The following community programs are now housed under CUES:<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height: 163px;\">\n<p><span class=\"s1\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/warner\/cues\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/eastepo.jpg\" alt=\"student with east t-shirt\" \/>UR-East EPO<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"s1\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.warner.rochester.edu\/centersandresearch\/go\/EastHigh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Rochester-East partnership<\/a>, known as an educational partnership organization (EPO), is a collaboration between the University of Rochester, Rochester City School District, and New York State Education Department to transform Rochester\u2019s East High School (grades 6-12), which was on the verge of state-sanctioned closure in 2014. This unique school-university partnership has been involved in all aspects of a transformative collaboration designed to greatly improve the school and student achievement.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"min-height: 163px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-22122 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/warner\/cues\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/2020-02-20_Michael_Skyer_382-copy-2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"163\" height=\"163\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/warner\/cues\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/2020-02-20_Michael_Skyer_382-copy-2.jpeg 163w, https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/warner\/cues\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/2020-02-20_Michael_Skyer_382-copy-2-150x150.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 163px) 100vw, 163px\" \/><strong>Guaranteed Rochester Accelerated Degree in Education (GRADE)<br \/>\n<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/admissions.rochester.edu\/academics\/grade\/\">GRADE<\/a> is a combined degree program (Bachelor&#8217;s + Master&#8217;s) designed to recruit and support students interested in careers in education. A focus for GRADE is on diversifying the teaching and other related education professions by expanding access to college and graduate school, especially from the city of Rochester. GRADE provides scholarships, community programming, mentorship, specialized coursework, and tailored advising to participating students as they matriculate through their undergraduate programs en route to Warner\u2019s master\u2019s programs.<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height: 163px;\">\n<p><span class=\"s1\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/warner\/cues\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/GVWP.jpg\" alt=\"teaching supervisor\" \/>Genesee Valley Writing Project<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"s1\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.warner.rochester.edu\/centersandresearch\/go\/GVWP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Genesee Valley Writing Project<\/a> is a collaborative school-university partnership that seeks to improve the teaching and learning of writing in PK-16 schools across the Genesee Valley region through a teachers-teaching-teachers professional development model. Highlights include summer institutes for teachers, a writing camp for youth in grades 6-12, and other grant-funded initiatives that support deeper investigation into local issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"min-height: 163px;\">\n<p><span class=\"s1\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/warner\/cues\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/antiracism.jpg\" alt=\"teaching in the classroom\" \/>Monroe County Anti-Racist Initiative<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"s1\">A new partnership led by CUES, between school districts across Monroe County, and community partners, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.warner.rochester.edu\/newsevents\/story\/2762\/crafting-classroom-lessons-with-an-anti-racist-lens\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monroe County Anti-Racist Initiative<\/a> is developing new anti-racist curriculum and instruction that will be implemented in Monroe County classrooms by spring 2021, beginning with grades 8, 11 and 12 and aligning with the U.S. history curricula and New York State standards.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"min-height: 163px;\">\n<p><span class=\"s1\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3006 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/warner\/cues\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/steptocollege.jpg\" alt=\"students with diplomas\" width=\"163\" height=\"163\" \/>Step to College Program<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.warner.rochester.edu\/centersandresearch\/go\/S2C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Step to College<\/a>, which launched in summer 2018 under the University of Rochester\u2019s EPO partnership with East High School, is an innovative pre-college program that aims to prepare Rochester students for admission to\u2014and to persist in\u2014two-year and four-year colleges.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"min-height: 163px;\">\n<p><span class=\"s1\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/warner\/cues\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/READ.jpg\" alt=\"teaching reading to students\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Project READ<br \/>\n<\/strong>In partnership with Rochester\u2019s John James Audubon School 33 and East Upper and Lower Schools, Warner faculty and graduate students, who are training to become reading specialists, offer a comprehensive literacy program for at-risk students. They provide individualized literacy instruction with School #33 primary grade students and support existing literacy programs and classroom teachers at East. Privately funded, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.warner.rochester.edu\/centersandresearch\/go\/ProjectREAD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Project READ<\/a> includes tutoring services, in-class support and modeling of best practices for teachers, literacy professional development for teachers, and family literacy activities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"min-height: 163px;\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3006 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/warner\/cues\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/school33.jpg\" alt=\"students with their artwork\" width=\"163\" height=\"163\" \/><strong>School 33 Partnership<br \/>\n<\/strong>With the University serving as the EPO for East since 2015, the School 33 Partnership works with the Rochester City School District to convert <span class=\"s1\">John James Audubon School 33\u00a0<\/span>to an elementary feeder school to East.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Community Outreach The Center for Urban Education Success (CUES) continues to grow and expand its efforts in the local community to support K-12 and postsecondary education.
