{"id":646,"date":"2019-03-12T18:23:36","date_gmt":"2019-03-12T18:23:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wdev.rochester.edu\/warner\/lida\/?page_id=646"},"modified":"2025-09-27T14:25:35","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T14:25:35","slug":"core-initiatives","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/warner\/lida\/about\/core-initiatives\/","title":{"rendered":"Core Initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;]<header class=\"entry-header\">\n\tAbout\t<h1>Core Initiatives<\/h1><\/header><!-- .entry-header -->[vc_column_text]The LiDA Center aims to create a comprehensive and sustainable infrastructure that will help leverage expertise within Warner as well as our educational partners so as to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proactively <strong>identify new developments and educational opportunities<\/strong> in the rapidly and ever-changing technology landscape.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coordinate and collaborate<\/strong> across various LiDA initiatives, uncovering possible synergies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Effectively disseminate<\/strong> what we are learning in the LiDA community so as to achieve greater impact on practice.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Develop internal capacity<\/strong> to provide needed services related to LiDA for Warner, the University of Rochester, and the region.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Attract external funding<\/strong> to support worthwhile LiDA projects and initiatives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;8256&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][vc_column_text]Informed by these priorities, the LiDA Center is currently involved in the following key on-going initiatives \u2013 in addition to <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/warner\/lida\/programs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>programs<\/strong><\/a><\/span><b>,<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/warner\/lida\/resources\/projects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>projects<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/warner\/lida\/services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>services<\/strong><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> described in other sections of the this website:<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion active_section=&#8221;0&#8243;][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;LiDA Center Website&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1556889748513-634bfc56-e030&#8243;][vc_column_text]This website is intended not only as a tool to inform the public about what the LiDA Center is doing, but more importantly as a vehicle to disseminate valuable information about Learning in the Digital Age and facilitate sharing and collaboration among members of the LiDA community we aim to support.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;LIDA Colloquium Series&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1556889748533-0041402c-b289&#8243;][vc_column_text]These are <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1-hour Zoom events<\/span>, each focusing on a specific topic and\/or set of \u201crelated\u201d project about LiDA, which are offered regularly throughout the academic year and open to anyone interested. Whenever possible, we put together panels or combine presentations from people working in different fields, or settings, as appropriate, to invite exchanges that break traditional silos. The first event of the year is dedicated to sharing updates on current projects and interests, to facilitate collaborations and networking. These colloquia are free and open to the public.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Management of Warner\u2019s programs preparing online and digitally-rich teachers&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1556889882052-750d58fc-48e1&#8243;][vc_column_text]These programs currently include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Advanced Certificate in Digitally-Rich Teaching in K-12 School<\/li>\n<li>The Advanced Certificate in Online Teaching<\/li>\n<li>The Advanced Certificate in Education for Health Care Professionals<\/li>\n<li>M.S. in Online Teaching and Learning<\/li>\n<li>M.S. in Health Professions Education<\/li>\n<li>The 6-credit course sequence recently created specifically to prepare UR faculty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Support for Warner online offerings&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1556889882830-199334f5-aabc&#8221;][vc_column_text]LiDA Center staff will continue to support individual Warner faculty and adjunct instructors as they engage in designing and implementing new fully online and hybrid-online courses for Warner.\u00a0 The Director and Associate Directors will also support the dean, associate dean for academic programs and program chairs in making strategic decisions about new online courses and programs \u2013 and how to best develop capacity for these new initiatives.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Support and evaluation for university-wide online offerings and related initiatives&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1556890055610-85d656fa-9113&#8243;][vc_column_text]The LiDA Center will continue to support Dr. Eric Fredericksen, in his role as Associate Vice-President for Online Learning for the university, as he designs and implements professional learning opportunities for UR faculty as well as launches other initiatives to promote high-quality online teaching and learning across the University. The LiDA Center will also partner as needed to provide program evaluation for specific projects and\/or participate in research projects organized by Dr. Fredericksen for the University.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Developing doctoral students\u2019 capacity to serve in LiDA projects&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1556890056370-d46a135f-b23d&#8221;][vc_column_text]Doctoral students have the potential to be a very important resource as we implement the mission of the LiDA Center \u2013 as they can teach online courses, design new online courses, provide professional development and work on externally funded projects. To fulfill any of these functions, however, they need specialized training.\u00a0 The LiDA Center will offer such training in a number of complementary ways &#8212; including access to specialized courses and\/or workshops, unique opportunities to participate in LiDA projects (on a paid and\/or voluntary basis), and structures to develop an intellectual community.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;\u201cIncubating\u201d the K-12 Digital Consortium&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1556890057051-8b70f9df-f84b&#8221;][vc_column_text]The LiDA Center has offered to \u201cincubate\u201d the K-12 Digital Consortium \u2013 a growing collaboration between the Warner School and selected BOCES and school districts in the region that have come together to help each other in their quest to leverage digital technologies to provide more effective learning opportunities to their students.
