This professional learning institute will focus on exploring and expanding ways to increase access to STEM education. Participants will employ a universal design for learning (UDL) instrument to support the planning of technology-based lessons and make them accessible for all learners. Two days of training will include time to explore, develop, and expand STEM activities within a UDL framework, and then opportunities to put those activities into practice with undergraduate teacher candidates and secondary students from local schools.<\/p>\n

During this learning institute, participants will:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Learn ways to include marginalized students in STEM using universal design for learning.<\/li>\n
  2. Practice how to use robotics as a learning tool that integrates storytelling as well as programming; and<\/li>\n
  3. Grow teaching, learning, and leadership skills by facilitating learning experiences for the next generation of teachers.\n
