Physics Standout

Govind Krishnaswami '99, a first-year graduate student in physics, received a top honor from the American Physical Society.

He was one of two students to receive a Leroy Apker Award. The $5,000 award recognizes Krishnaswami's undergraduate research on the subatomic particles that make up protons.

As part of the award, the University's Department of Physics and Astronomy also received $5,000 in support of undergraduate research.

Krishnaswami is the first student from the University to win the Apker Award, which coincidentally is named for a 1941 Rochester graduate.
