Our Priorities

Excellence

Our schools and programs are the foundation for excellence across the University

With seven schools, nearly 12,000 students, six hospitals comprising a leading academic medical center and the nation’s premier optics institute, the University of Rochester is a place where the exceptional gets better.

We are a top-tier research institution that knows the importance of engaging across disciplines. Centers of excellence like the Beal Institute for Film Music and Contemporary Media, Center for Visual Science, Goergen Institute for Data Science, Humanities Center, and Laboratory for Laser Energetics unite scholars throughout the University.

From Arts & Sciences, the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences, and the Simon Business School to the Warner School of Education, Eastman School of Music, and Schools of Nursing and Medicine and Dentistry, the University of Rochester is home to rigorous academic programs in every field.

We hope the Beal Institute can become well known as a center not only for study and archiving, but for presentation. There isn’t a great film music festival in this country, and there’s no better place to have one than Rochester
