Moments from Commencement
School of Medicine and Dentistry
Bringing new light to the history of medicine
The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry celebrated the Class of 2021 with the conferral of doctor of medicine degrees to just over 90 students during commencement ceremonies on May 14.
In a ceremony held against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic and renewed attention to racism, social injustice, and systemic inequities, the class was lauded for their resilience and charged with building a better health care system and a better society.
“We look to you, graduates, to keep us honest, to keep us accountable,” said Adrienne Morgan, senior associate dean for equity and inclusion at the School of Medicine and Dentistry and associate vice president in the University’s Office of Equity and Inclusion. “It was people like you who asked, ‘Why are we doing this?’ who ended up changing the course of history. As practitioners of medicine, you have an opportunity to bring light to our history and to help us bring about the equity and inclusivity we need today.”
