Staff invited to volunteer at commencement: Staff throughout the University community are encouraged to volunteer at the University Commencement Ceremony, which will take place in Fauver Stadium at the Brian F. Prince Athletic Complex on Friday, May 12, at 9 a.m. Volunteers will be a part of the excitement and have the opportunity to celebrate with the graduates. In addition to watching the commencement ceremony in person, volunteers will receive a complimentary ticket to the graduate and family food truck picnic. Share your story at this year’s staff retreat: The AS&E Dean’s Office is excited to invite current AS&E staff to serve as panelists in the session titled “Pathways in Higher Education” at this year’s retreat on June 7. Panelists will be asked to share their stories on how they navigated their professional careers, sharing both highlights and setbacks, career aspirations, and advice for their fellow colleagues. Interested individuals should submit a 200-word career summary to the DeanofFaculty@rochester.edu by May 1. Selected panelists will be notified by May 15.
Student fellowships available: The Student Fellowships Office is seeking your best and most promising students (rising seniors, graduating seniors, or graduate students) for the most competitive student fellowships that fund graduate-level study in the UK and Ireland. Who are we looking for? High academic achievers who also demonstrate passion, imagination, ambition, and potential for significant contributions in their area of study/research and chosen careers; outstanding capacity to recognize needs and lead others to action; uncommon interest in being of service to others (especially the vulnerable and marginalized) and a distinctive record of doing so; remarkable interpersonal skills and ambassadorial qualities. This chart includes a summary of the major competitive awards to the UK and Ireland. Recommend your students to us and we can begin working with them now to assess candidacy potential and application strategy. Most of these fellowships have early fall deadlines, which is why summer application preparation is critical.

College course development fellowship: Designing a new fall 2023 course or redesigning an existing one? Work with the Teaching Center and a group of colleagues over the summer to plan and then meet during the fall semester to debrief and troubleshoot. Fellows are awarded a $1,000 nonsalary stipend. Nominate a colleague for an ACE Award: The University community is invited to nominate AS&E staff members who exemplify the University’s vision and values and go above and beyond their job to make AS&E and the University ever better. Successful nominations will highlight specific examples of tasks, projects, or activities where staff are exceeding their core functions. Staff can be nominated more than once and winners will be chosen on the first of each month by Joan Saab, interim dean of the faculty.
