Researchers identify path to prevent cognitive decline after radiation

Researchers at the Del Monte Institute for Neuroscience have found that microglia—the brain’s immune cells—can trigger cognitive deficits after radiation exposure and may be a key target for preventing these symptoms.

In today’s issue:

TODAY'S UPDATES

Changes coming to University's Zoom login

In continued efforts to streamline the end-user experience and increase consistency across University applications and services, the University is moving toward using a single authentication technology. Currently, faculty, staff, and students use either NetID credentials (e.g., HRMS) or Active Directory (AD) credentials (e.g., Workday, Blackboard, Wireless, etc.) to gain access to systems and applications. Over the past year, many applications and systems have transitioned from NetID to AD for authentication and authorization.

Starting Wednesday, January 10, users logging into UR Zoom (rochester.zoom.us) will be required to use their Active Directory username and password rather than their NetID. While most faculty, staff, and students already have the same synched username for their NetID and AD credentials, some do not. For those who do not, visit myidentity.rochester.edu to view your accounts. This change only impacts UR Zoom (rochester.zoom.us) accounts. URMC Zoom (urmc.zoom.us) will not be affected. As part of this implementation, all users will be logged out of Zoom and must log back in using their AD credentials.

For those who use the Zoom Meeting Manager in Blackboard, if you are no longer able to connect after this update (because the email address associated with your Active Directory account is different than what was associated with NetID), you can switch to the new Zoom Meetings tool in Blackboard. This tool uses your URID to connect to Zoom and will work regardless of your email address. All your existing scheduled meetings will appear as soon as you add this new tool to your course.

Winter weather decisions and communications

Winter weather is upon us in the Rochester area and the University’s emergency preparedness teams are ready with the plans and tools that keep the University operational and community members informed during snowstorms or severe weather. Here are key points to remember about staying informed during winter in Rochester.

It’s important to know that only under extreme weather conditions do University officials consider reducing or delaying on-campus operations and canceling activities, provided that essential services can still be maintained. As a National Weather Service StormReady University, the University is well equipped to deal with snow and ice and, in general, remains in operation and continues with regular activities, classes, and services.
