Kah Pah (Melissa) Loh, an assistant professor of medicine, received a 40 Under 40 in Cancer award, given during a reception at the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting. She was also recently named an Outstanding Junior Investigator of the Year by the American Geriatrics Society.
14th annual Shred Fest collects over 7 tons of paper
This year’s Shred Fest event collected a total of 14,300 pounds—or 7.2 tons—of paper that was securely shredded and recycled. The event is made possible through a partnership between University Facilities and Services and Iron Mountain. Learn more about Shred Fest and find pictures of this year’s event.
Course policy updates for undergraduate students in the College
The College Dean’s Office shares with undergraduates in the School of Arts & Sciences and Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences undergraduates these updates to two policies that are in effect as of fall 2024: Incomplete Grades (now called Incomplete Notations) and Audit Registrations.
Students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor to discuss questions about the updates to these policies. You may also email college.academicaffairs@rochester.edu.

Are your dorm walls feeling a little empty? Check out the poster sale this week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale takes place today, August 28, and Thursday, August 29, on the Wilson Commons front porch, and on Friday, August 30, in Hirst Lounge. Hirst Lounge is also the rain location.
Careers in Data Science: ‘What I Did on My Summer Internship’
Join the Goergen Institute for Data Science on Friday, August 30, at 1 p.m. in Wegmans Hall, Room 1400, for “Careers in Data Science: What I Did on My Summer Internship.” Find out what fellow data science students did for their summer internship. Four data science undergraduate and master’s students will share their internship stories at the annual summer internship panel.
Open to all University instructors, faculty, and staff, the following Zoom workshops from the Teaching Center are designed to provide practical strategies and ready-to-implement tools. Thursday workshops are held from 11 a.m. to noon; Friday workshops are held from noon to 1 p.m. Register here.

‘Celebrity Bartender’ happy hour to benefit Friends of Strong
Join Friends of Strong for a Celebrity Bartender happy hour to benefit patient- and family-centered care. The fundraiser runs from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, at Grappa in College Town. Enjoy complimentary appetizers as colleagues take turns serving drinks—with all cash tips going directly to Friends of Strong. Grappa will also match the first $1,500 in donated tips.
All the Beauty in the World talk and book signing
Join the Memorial Art Gallery for a talk and book signing by Patrick Bringley, a former New Yorker staffer who spent a decade as a museum guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, about his book All the Beauty in the World—a unique and intimate perspective on one of the world’s greatest museums and its treasures. The event takes place on Thursday, September 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. and is free to attend (museum admission not included). Registration ends on Thursday, September 19, at 8 pm.
