Shred Fest

An annual event held each summer where the University community can get rid of documents in a safe and eco-friendly way

We partner with Iron Mountain annually so the University community can safely dispose of personal documents in an environmentally responsible way. Since 2011, Shred Fest has recycled more than 115 tons of paper.

Annual Shred Fest

Stay tuned for details about the 15th annual Shred Fest, slated for summer 2025.

The event is held in parking lot Zone 3 South, next to a Facilities and Services building, on the River Campus.

What to bring

Limit of five bags/boxes of personal documents per person:

  • Paper (any color)
  • File folders (any color)
  • Staples, rubber bands, and small binder clips are OK

Do not bring:

  • Phonebooks
  • Hardcover books
  • Three-ring binders
  • Large binder clips
  • CDs or DVDs
  • Metals
  • Plastics
  • Hazardous materials
  • Trash
  • Pre-shredded paper

For confidential shredding services for University departments or offices, call Facilities Customer Service Center at (585) 273-4567.

What to expect

It can be risky to leave sensitive personal documents out for curbside pick-up. Shred Fest allows you to safely dispose of your documents in an environmentally responsible way.

At the event, volunteers unload your car and place your documents into a locked container. Once full, the container is sent to an Iron Mountain truck, where the contents are securely shredded. The shredded paper is then recycled, along with any boxes or bags.

Note: If you wish to unload your materials personally or witness your documents being shredded, please inform the event staff and remain in your vehicle for further instruction.

How do I get there?

Shred Fest is located in the parking lot Zone 3 South next to a Facilities and Services building. Please refer to the Medical Center + Middle Campus map to help you find the correct event location.

If you are traveling by car from the Medical Center, follow these directions:

  1. Head south on Elmwood Avenue and take a right onto Wilson Boulevard to enter the River Campus.
  2. Take your first right (before the information booth) onto Trustee Road.
  3. Take another right onto Intercampus Drive.
  4. Drive across the bridge over Elmwood Avenue.
  5. Drive down toward the baseball field. Zone 3 South will be to the right. Signs will be posted to help direct you.
