Fall shuttle schedules are now in effect. The TripShot app has also replaced Passio Go to track University shuttles in real time. TripShot provides shuttle routes, schedules, and live bus locations. Get started below and visit the Transportation site for additional details.
All new students at the University, student athletes, and student leaders must complete training on topics vital to the safety and well-being of the campus, which aligns with Rochester’s Meliora values and ensures compliance with state and federal law. You will receive an email directly from Blackboard, which includes your link to the training and will launch later this month. Review additional information about the required annual training here. Completion of these training courses is required by the assigned due date of October 10. Failure to complete them by the due date results in several holds placed on your student account.
Student survey to help Rochester improve its website
The University is working with a third-party market research company to improve its website and is looking for feedback from current undergraduate and graduate students. Take this 10-minute survey to share your opinion about the University’s website. Your privacy is valued—your input and answers will only be used in aggregate by the market research company, and no personally identifiable information will be shared with the University. Childcare grant for PhD students
Full-time PhD students who have a child (or children) aged newborn through six years old may wish to apply for the University’s childcare grant for PhD students. Find more information here, including eligibility requirements and FAQ. A link to the application portal will be available through Monday, September 15, for the fall 2025 cycle. Email questions here.
The Office of Academic Excellence has developed a syllabus template to assist University instructors. Items required by the New York State Education Department are clearly marked, and the template contains embedded instructions and sample language. Access the template here.
2026 childcare subsidy application window opens in September
The 2026 childcare subsidy annual application window will be open from Friday, September 5, through Monday, September 22. You must apply during this timeframe to receive an award for the following calendar year. Check out the eligibility criteria, required materials, and FAQs to start preparing now. If you received the subsidy in 2025, you must reapply for 2026. Contact familycare@rochester.edu with questions.
Benefits survey closes on August 25
There’s still time to complete the employee benefits survey that was emailed to eligible employees on August 12. Your feedback about what is important to you is essential in shaping the University’s long-term benefits strategy; you’ll be entered in a drawing for a chance to win prizes just for participating. Complete the survey by August 25. An outside consulting firm conducts the survey to ensure confidentiality.
Eligible employees include active, regular full-time and part-time faculty, staff, residents, and fellows. Employees on leave, postdoctoral appointees, student workers, and members of SEIU are not included.
On-site retirement planning sessions
The University now offers MMA Prosper Wise, a new retirement planning tool that adds to the financial resources available through the University retirement program. This fall, a financial coach will visit University locations to offer one-on-one sessions for personalized support for your retirement goals. Register for a session at Corporate Woods, the Medical Center, or the River Campus.
A toolkit is now available to help the University community put sustainability into practice. Share the latest program initiatives with official signage and posters, make your workspace more environmentally responsible with the Green Office Guide, plan eco-friendly events and giveaways with the Green Events Handbook, and more. Reach out to the Sustainability Office with questions.
It’s unlikely that temperatures themselves are significantly affecting people’s ideology, said James Druckman, the Martin Brewer Anderson Professor of Political Science, who has studied the factors underlying beliefs about climate change. “I don’t think they’re having a substantial impact on what people think. They might at the margin,” says Druckman. “I think the politics have become too polarized or entrenched on this issue.”
