Collaborators from the Medical Center, RIT design a point-of-care blood typing device
Majed Refaai, a professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, and Steven Day, head of the department of biomedical engineering at RIT, have teamed up to design a new device that can quickly report a patient’s blood type using a small drop of blood. Did you know most mobile device users don’t password-protect their phones? With much of your personal information stored on portable devices, it is crucial to add extra security to protect your identity from being stolen in the event your device is lost. There are many features you can enable to protect and lock your devices such as the traditional fingerprint, passcode, or pattern. Find out what features you can use on your devices to gain peace of mind knowing your information is secure. Travel authorization changes
The travel authorization process has been modified to streamline risk management requirements and eliminate financial pre-authorizations for travel. All travelers must continue to register all international travel with the Office of Global Engagement through the Travel Registry and student travelers must continue to follow all procedures for review and approval of abroad experiences. The Workday Spend Authorization no longer requires any approvals, but is required for making reservations via our travel agents’ online booking tools and therefore continues to be available as an electronic/automated alternative to the paper F2.Visit the Business Expense and Travel Reimbursement site for more information on Workday Spend Authorizations and online booking tools that will be available soon.
James P. Wilmot Distinguished Assistant Professorship recipients
Four University faculty members have been awarded James P. Wilmot Distinguished Assistant Professorships: Michela Andreatta, an assistant professor of Hebrew language and literature; Martina Poletti, an assistant professor of brain and cognitive sciences and of neuroscience; John Singleton, an assistant professor of economics; and Chenliang Xu, an assistant professor of computer science. Announced every two years, the professorships are held by the recipients until the next round of awards.
“Trust that they know who they are and are capable of defining themselves,” says Leanna Knight, a third-year medical student at the School of Medicine and Dentistry. “If they’re wanting to seek out gender-affirming care in whatever way they need it, trust that.”
The R Club at the Goergen Athletic Center is now open
The R Club at the Goergen Athletic Center is now accepting new memberships for University faculty, staff, alumni, retirees, secondary members, and friends. Membership includes the use of the fitness center, aquatic center, indoor track, recreation courts, tennis courts, squash courts, and racquetball courts. Find more information on how to join.
