Christopher Deeney appointed director of the Laboratory for Laser Energetics
Christopher Deeney has been named director of the Laboratory for Laser Energetics, succeeding Michael Campbell, who retired in December. Deeney was named deputy director of the LLE in October 2021 and has served as interim director since Campbell’s retirement. He previously served as chief science and technology officer, National Security Directorate, at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and before that at the Nevada National Security Site, the US Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration, and the Sandia National Laboratories.

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered Tuesday, May 24, for Jonathan Markson, a professor of clinical in emergency medicine, who died on April 25. Markson joined the University faculty in 2001.
‘Connect for Support’ sessions for employees affected by attack in Buffalo
In response to the recent racist attack on the Black community in Buffalo, UR Medicine EAP is offering a “Connect for Support” space for affected employees on Friday, May 20, and Wednesday, May 25, at noon EDT. The session is designed to help employees recognize their own symptoms of distress, consider coping skills to support their own wellness during these difficult times, and create a space for employees to support one another. Deadline extension for the 2022 Del Monte Institute Pilot Program
The application deadline for the 2022 Del Monte Pilot Program has been extended to Tuesday, May 31. Up to 20 novel basic, clinical, and translational projects in the neurosciences will be supported. Five programs support these awards including, for the first time, the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center. Learn more and apply here.
