National Weather Service recertifies University as StormReady
The National Weather Service has again recognized the University as a StormReady university for its preparedness to handle all types of severe and potentially life-threatening weather. In 2015, Rochester was the first private university in New York state to be certified StormReady.

UR Financials, UR Procurement, and UR Student get a new look
UR Financials, UR Procurement, and UR Student (Workday) perform system upgrades that include new features and functionality every second weekend of March and September. The next feature release will begin Friday, September 9, at 9 p.m. EDT.
Significant changes to the interface are expected. System navigation, homepage layout, and search page results will look and perform differently. Access this short video for an overview of the changes. After the upgrade, a quick reference guide and details on additional modifications will be available within the system’s announcements.
All lines of service will be unavailable from Friday, September 9, at 9 p.m. EDT through Saturday, September 10, at 8 a.m. EDT to complete upgrade activities. University support teams will do the final configuration and system validation on Saturday, September 10, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT. A full maintenance schedule is available here.
“There’s this big debate happening across science and statistics, trying to figure out how to make sure that this process can happen more smoothly and that decisions are actually based on what they should be,” says Benjamin Baer, a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Biostatistics and Computational Biology.
Located within the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, the Study Zone is a quiet, focused place to work. Students commit to spending at least three hours a week in the Study Zone and benefit from peer support in planning effective study sessions. By providing a productive location, personal support, and free beverages and snacks (new this semester), this informal study location will help students get past common barriers to turn their academic goals into reality. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. The program serves both undergraduate and graduate students in Arts, Sciences & Engineering, the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Simon Business School, and Warner School of Education. Enroll here.
Apply to be a Neighborhood Ambassador
Are you living off campus for the 2022–23 school year and looking to make a difference in your new neighborhood? The Off-Campus Living Program, under the guidance of the Office for Residential Life and Housing Services, created the Neighborhood Ambassadors Program to assist University students with their transition to off-campus living. The Neighborhood Ambassadors provide a point of contact for the student residents on their assigned streets, provide access to community resources, and build community through programming and service. Workshop lunch series for AS&E graduate students and postdocs
The Graduate Writing Project is hosting a Wednesday workshop lunch series for Arts, Sciences & Engineering graduate students and postdocs starting August 31. Join for free food and writing support to kickstart your semester. Register online and contact liz.tinelli@rochester.edu with questions.
