Funded internships open doors to graduate schools, career paths, and personal growth
Through donations from alumni and friends of the University, the Gwen M. Greene Center for Career Education and Connections funded summer internships for 92 Rochester undergraduates in 2022. Since many coveted internships come with limited or no compensation and are located in some of the most expensive regions of the nation, this funding is critical to ensuring all qualified students can meet their travel, food, lodging, and living expenses. Above, Rob McIntyre (right), an Emmy Award-winning supervising sound editor and sound designer, reunited with Grace Stensland ’23 in the control room of the recording studio in Gavett Hall during a recent campus visit. Stensland interned with McIntyre at Sound Rebels, an audio post-production company in Burbank, California.

New decision-making resource aims to help community ‘get care now’
The Medical Center has launched Get Care Now, an online resource to help the community make informed choices to get the right care in the right setting within the UR Medicine health system. The decision-making tool spells out the levels of care available at 13 urgent care locations in Monroe County and the Finger Lakes region.
Celebrate the linguistic diversity of the University community during International Education Week. Stop by the Language Center at Douglass Commons, Room 305, to pin your language on the world map. The map will be up for the remainder of the month.
Additional dates for STI testing
Did you know that the most common symptom of a sexually transmitted infection is actually no symptoms at all? Sign up for an appointment at one of the UHS Health Promotion Office’s free STI testing clinics throughout the semester. Clinics are open to all undergraduate and graduate students.

Join the River Campus Libraries for an annual international event that aims to spread awareness about geographic information systems, mapping, and spatial thinking. This year’s event will focus on urban heat, which can contribute to heat exhaustion and respiratory illnesses. Visit Carlson Science and Engineering Library from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. today, November 16, to learn how to create maps that show the effects of higher temperatures on a city’s demographics. Opening weekend events for Ancient Egypt exhibit at MAG
Striking Power: Iconoclasm in Ancient Egypt opens on Sunday, November 20, at Memorial Art Gallery and is on exhibit through March 5. From 12:30 to 4 p.m. on November 20, uncover the many mysteries of Ancient Egypt, discover the wonders of the new exhibition, and revel in music, dance, art activities, and more during “Striking Power Sunday.” This event also features the exhibition’s opening program lecture, “Broken Statues, Broken Connections,” from 2 to 3 p.m. with exhibition curator Edward Bleiberg. The lecture is included with museum admission, but registration is required.
