Public Safety provides programs and training for the University community on a variety of topics, including personal safety, diffusing violence, and more. Active Shooter

The active shooter presentation addresses the threat of an active shooter at the University by providing awareness, preparation, prevention and response methods. The presentation is derived from best practices and statistics prescribed by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

Duration: 1 Hour

De-Escalation

The de-escalation presentation helps those who face emotionally triggered individuals regularly or those who want to be prepared in the event of a unique, stressful situation. The presentation provides information about the human cycle of aggression, and offers conflict resolution skills to better manage elevated/agitated individuals. The presentation is based on the standards set by the Crisis Prevention Institute.

Situational Awareness

The situational awareness presentation provides introduction to theory and concepts associated with systematic observation and situational awareness. Individuals will learn how to systematically observe the environment around them and identify things that may not look right. With this awareness, individuals can make more informed decisions and take actions to help keep themselves safe.

Public Safety Services

The Department of Public Safety includes 200 peace officers and support personnel. In addition to providing emergency services, law enforcement services, and service-based support to the University community, the department provides training opportunities and engages in ongoing safety measures across all University campuses. The public safety services presentation is designed for all audiences, and offers an interactive outlet for individuals to learn more about the Department of Public Safety and its purpose at the University.
