President Sarah Mangelsdorf and Provost David Figlio share an update on the refinement and implementation of the University’s 2030 Boundless Possibility strategic plan, noting that, “over the last three months, we have incorporated feedback from faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the Board of Trustees into the plan, updated web content, developed tactics for the 2023–24 academic year, and refined measurements of success.”
Mangelsdorf and Figlio continue to welcome ideas from the University community, including thoughts on tactics and the many ways that students, faculty, and staff are already contributing to the success of the plan. All are invited to share ideas with their leadership, submit feedback on the Boundless Possibility website, or attend one of several strategic planning discussion sessions, which will take place later this summer and throughout the fall semester. Four University researchers have received the National Science Foundation’s Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) award: Zhen Bai, an assistant professor of computer science; Miki Nakajima, an assistant professor of earth and environmental sciences; Shauna Paradine, an assistant professor of chemistry; and Aaron White, an assistant professor of linguistics. The award is given to promising scientists early in their careers and recognizes “outstanding research, excellent education, and the integration of education and research.” The award also comes with a federal grant for their research and education activities.

‘Going for Baroque’ at MAG
Included with admission to the Memorial Art Gallery, “Going for Baroque” is a weekly series of mini recitals that offers students from the Eastman School of Music the opportunity to perform alongside professional musicians on the Italian Baroque organ on the second floor of the museum. The concerts are held every Sunday at 1:30 and 3 p.m.
Last week, Reenah Golden, founder and executive artistic director of the Avenue Blackbox Theatre and an adjunct faculty member in the International Theatre Program, was awarded a special citation from Rochester Mayor Malik Evans in recognition of her work creating community, nurturing young artists, and inspiring and mentoring young people.
