In a new message to the University community, President Sarah Mangelsdorf, Provost David Figlio, and Vice President for Equity and Inclusion Adrienne Morgan share action steps that are being taken this academic year to strengthen efforts to ensure that members of the University’s transgender community feel valued, respected, and appreciated. “Their experiences, contributions, and voices enrich our campus in immeasurable ways. The fall semester test of AlertUR will occur today, September 14, at 6 p.m. AlertUR is the University’s emergency notification system, inclusive of the Medical Center. In the event of an emergency, alerts are sent by voice, text, and email message. The purpose of the twice-a-year test is to activate the AlertUR system and check that you can be reached immediately. Jodyi Wren to lead Greene Center
Jodyi Wren will serve as the next assistant dean and executive director of the Gwen M. Greene Center for Career Education and Connections, an appointment that went into effect September 1. Wren has filled this role on an interim basis since spring 2022 and has worked with the Greene Center since 2005, serving in various roles over the past two decades.

Did you know that the most common symptom of a sexually transmitted infection is no symptoms at all? If you are sexually active, you should make sure you are getting regularly tested for STIs. Sign up for an appointment at one of the UHS Health Promotion Office’s free testing clinics throughout the semester. These clinics are held on Mondays from noon to 3 p.m. in partnership with the Monroe County Department of Health. Open to all undergraduate and graduate students.
LGBTQ+ mindfulness class
Following the practices in A Queer Dharma: Yoga and Meditations for Liberation by Jacoby Ballard, join a facilitated, queer-centered space of shared experience and support in which participants can develop mindfulness skills for stress reduction and relaxation. All members of the campus community are welcome to join; however, allies will be asked to “step back” in order to make space for queer voices during debriefs and commit to contributing to the safety of everyone in attendance. Anyone who attends all four sessions can receive a free copy of the book, a yoga mat, or a meditation cushion. Offered weekly on Thursdays from 5 to 6:15 p.m. via Zoom from September 21 to October 12. Register here.
Apply to present at AS&E Graduate Research Day
The AS&E Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs office is hosting the 2nd annual AS&E Graduate Research Day on Friday, October 20. Master’s and PhD students across disciplines in Arts, Sciences & Engineering are encouraged to apply to present a brief research talk by September 20. This event is meant to provide an opportunity for students to practice presenting in a low-stakes environment and to showcase the research accomplishments of the diverse AS&E graduate student body. The University community is invited to attend the talks and reception.
Required MyPath training will help employees clearly understand how to securely work in on-campus and remote environments
University IT has bolstered its institution-wide information security policies and will soon require all employees to complete training in MyPath to ensure everyone has a clear understanding of expectations, best practices, and responsibilities to keep personal and institutional information secure. Faculty and staff should check their email to view the full details of the required MyPath training set to launch on September 18. Apply for KL2 Career Development Award
The deadline to submit a letter of intent for the Clinical and Translational Science Institute KL2 Career Development Award is Monday, September 18, at 5 p.m. The award provides two years of support for early-career, multidisciplinary clinical and translational scientists to foster their transition to independent research careers.

September is National Life Insurance Month. The Office of Human Resources has worked with Securian Financial to offer tools on additional resources for University employees. Group universal life (GUL) insurance, which you may purchase through the University, was designed to protect your loved ones and their financial future by providing an extra level of financial protection during your working years when your income would be missed the most. Mt. Hope Family Center is hosting its 3rd annual “Run FASD: 5K Your Way” and picnic on Sunday, September 17, at Genesee Valley Park from 12:30 to 3 p.m. The event is part of an international movement to bring awareness and decrease the stigma of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder.
