University update on yesterday's SJP rally

In response to yesterday’s Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) rally on the River Campus, the University posted an update to the “Well-Being, Safety, and Campus Events” web page, recognizing “that the right to peacefully protest and freely express passionately held convictions is an essential tenet of our University’s Meliora value,“ and reminding students “to be mindful of how they express their views.” Read the full update here.

Flags will be lowered for Manuel del Cerro

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Tuesday, November 14, for Manuel del Cerro, a professor emeritus in the Department of Ophthalmology, who died on October 13. del Cerro joined the University faculty in 1965.

Kohn Lectures with the Speaking Fellows

Sexual health event on masturbation

Submissions accepted to literary and arts journal

Murmur, a literary and arts journal that was started in 2015 by School of Medicine and Dentistry students, is now accepting submissions for its eighth annual edition. All are invited to submit art, photography, poetry, prose, audio, and video submissions that reflect your experiences, landmarks, and identities that you hold as you navigate your journey in medicine. Find additional guidance on the submission form. The deadline for submissions Is Friday, January 12.

You can also attend a reading and distribution event for the seventh edition of murmur on Tuesday, November 14, at 5 p.m. in the Medical Center’s Ryan Case Method Room (1-9576). Enjoy light refreshments, pick up a copy of last year’s journal, and gather with the editors and contributors.

Equity-focused dissemination and implementation seminar

Borsika Rabin, an associate professor at the UC San Diego Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science, and Nicole Stadnick, an associate professor of psychiatry at UC San Diego, present “Implementation Science Models, Methods, and Strategies for Meaningful Community Engagement in Co-creation of Culturally Responsive Public Health Solutions” on Tuesday, November 14, at 4 p.m. Register for the virtual session from the Clinical and Translational Science Institute.

Managing the Monsters in Your Life exhibition reception

Pediatric Behavioral Health and Wellness and the Bridge Art Gallery invite you to a reception for a partnership art exhibition, Managing the Monsters in Your Life on November 15 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Romano Room, Strong Memorial Hospital (1-9041). International Education Week featured speaker: Andrea Campos

Register to attend a talk with this year’s International Education Week featured speaker, Andrea Campos, a Mexican-American, New York Times bestselling illustrator, designer, and creative storyteller. The talk takes place on Thursday, November 16, at 6 p.m. In addition to the presentation, there will be a raffle for some of Campos’s design products from Target as well as a chance to have dinner with her at GRAPPA after the presentation; you must be in attendance to win. Only University students are eligible for the GRAPPA dinner giveaway; other raffle prizes are open to all attendees.

Get a head start on holiday shopping on Friday, November 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Sarah Flaum Atrium, School of Medicine and Dentistry. Back for its ninth year, the Friends of Strong holiday market features unique, hand-crafted gifts, goodies, and more—including a special visit from Strong’s pet therapy dogs with their new 2024 wall calendar. Enjoy samples and take part in a prize drawing that benefits patient care initiatives throughout Strong Memorial Hospital. Bernard Guyer lecture series on trauma-informed systems change

The fall Bernard Guyer lecture series, starting at noon on Friday, November 17, features Alisha Moreland-Capuia, founder and director of the Institute for Trauma-Informed Systems Change at McLean/Harvard, presenting “Building Trauma-Informed Organizations and People: Why Healing Must Be the Way Forward.” There will be continued conversation with additional time for Q&A immediately following the virtual event. ‘Movie and Mimosas’ at the Memorial Art Gallery

The Memorial Art Gallery is hosting “Movie and Mimosas” on Sunday, December 3, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The recommended audience is ages 17 and up. Enjoy light-fare pastries and fruit in the Vanden Brul Pavilion before a noon showing of Kusama: Infinity, in which the world-renowned artist Yayoi Kusama and experts discuss her life and work, from her modest beginnings in Japan to becoming an internationally renowned artist.
