Eastman School brings music to underserved Rochesterians
This spring, ROC City Concerts—a special ensemble comprising Eastman School of Music students, faculty, and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra members—performed live music for underserved communities, including incarcerated individuals at the Monroe County Jail. The outreach aligns with the University’s “Live the Six” initiative to counter hatred and racism. The ensemble pictured above includes Yoo Jin Jang, an assistant professor of violin; Elinor Freer, an associate professor of piano and chamber music; David Ying, an associate professor of string chamber music and of violoncello; baritone Holden Turner ’25E, and Maura McCune Corvington, an instructor of horn, of arts leadership, and of brass chamber music.

Isolation both whittles down the chances that someone will recognize men are in trouble before a suicide attempt and makes it less likely that they will be quickly rescued if they attempt to end their lives, says Yeates Conwell, a professor and vice chair of the Department of Psychiatry.
The Campus Mail Center recommends that River Campus departments place orders for any necessary items for the upcoming fall semester as soon as possible. This will help ensure that packages are processed promptly. Beginning in mid-August, there will be a significant increase in student packages arriving at the mail center, which is expected to slow down operations temporarily. Your patience in retrieving packages received by the mail center after August 9 is appreciated. Email cmc@facilities.rochester.edu or call (585) 275-3991 with questions.
