Faculty appointed to named professorships

Several faculty members were appointed to named professorships during the first half of 2024. An honor designed to recognize the national stature of a professor’s work, the named positions are part of a long-standing tradition to celebrate the work of Rochester’s faculty as researchers, scholars, and teachers.

  • Dragony Fu, the Mercer Brugler Distinguished Teaching Professor
  • Jill Halterman, the William H. Eilinger Chair of Pediatrics and physician-in-chief at the Golisano Children’s Hospital

IN MEMORIAM

Flags will be lowered for Kay Pfluke

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Thursday, August 1, for Kay Pfluke, an ambulatory technician III in the Pelvic Health/Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing Department, who died on July 15. Pfluke joined the University staff in 1988.


FOR FACULTY AND STAFF

HRMS is going away; training launches for myURHR

On September 23, myURHR will replace HRMS. The best way to ensure you and your team are prepared is to complete training. myURHR training is now underway for managers and coordinators, including those who take care of Personnel Action Forms. On August 1, training will launch for timekeeping roles and the majority of faculty and staff. Stay up-to-date by visiting the myURHR web pages, emailing the training team with questions, and watching for MyPath notifications in your email inbox.

Take virtual fitness classes, win prizes

Beginning August 1, take at least one class in Studio Sweat onDemand each week during the month and be entered into a drawing to win a prize. First, claim your free access to Studio Sweat onDemand, a virtual fitness and wellness platform that is part of the University’s wellness benefits. Then, take any class: scenic backgrounds, meditations, and thousands of fitness classes are available to take live or on-demand. Email Well-U with questions.

Travel discounts available through Care.com

Learn about Warner School graduate programs and begin your journey this fall

Attend a Warner School of Education and Human Development virtual information session from noon to 1 p.m. today, July 24, to learn more about scholarship opportunities that can significantly reduce tuition expenses and get detailed insights into the variety of graduate programs, including applied behavior analysis, counseling, educational leadership, education policy, health professions education, higher education, human development, online teaching, program evaluation, and teaching. The Warner School welcomes applications on a rolling basis. Apply any time before August 1 for an entry term as early as fall 2024. Kearns Summer Research Symposium

Join the 32nd annual Kearns Summer Research Symposium on Friday, August 2, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Feldman Ballroom, Douglass Commons. Hosted by the David T. Kearns Center, the symposium celebrates the achievements of over 60 undergraduate research scholars who spend the summer engaged in groundbreaking research at the University.
