TODAY'S UPDATES

Gift supports Strong Memorial Hospital’s expansion project

Rochester business leaders Peter J. Landers ’83 (MS) and Kathleen “Kathy” E. Landers ’82 have committed $1 million to support the Strong Memorial Hospital expansion project, the largest capital project in the University’s history. The couple’s gift will name the Landers Adult Waiting Room in the soon-to-be-expanded emergency department that will serve generations of future families.

Protect yourself from AI voice scams

A new type of scam using AI to impersonate loved ones’ voices has come to the attention of IT Security. Scammers can use these voices to create a sense of urgency and trick victims into giving away personal information or money. The University’s IT Security team shares some ways to remain vigilant:

  • Don’t panic. Verify! Do not react impulsively to calls demanding immediate action. Verify the information directly by contacting the person involved through a trusted source.
  • Listen for unnatural speech. AI voices might sound slightly robotic or have unnatural pauses.

By staying informed and educating yourself or loved ones about these tactics, and remaining calm during suspicious calls, you can avoid falling victim to AI voice scams. Find more information on different types of scams and how to protect yourself.
