TODAY'S UPDATES

Calendar sharing changes aim to strengthen information security

A recent security incident revealed a vulnerability within Outlook’s calendar-sharing settings. Previously, you could share calendar details with individuals outside of the organization. It was also found that all calendar event details could easily be shared with the whole institution by accident. University IT and URMC ISD are taking precautionary steps to ensure calendar events containing sensitive information are protected. Learn about these changes and what to expect when you share calendar events externally and internally.

FEATURE

Discovery enables gene therapy for muscular dystrophies and other disorders

A new RNA-based technology dubbed “StitchR” facilitates effective use of gene therapy for difficult-to-treat, large-gene diseases. Read more about the research, led by Douglas Anderson, an assistant professor of medicine.

SECURITY TIP

Prepare yourself for the biggest shopping holiday of the year

Many companies are starting their Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals early this year, giving you more time to shop the hottest items on the market. But this comes with added risks as cybercriminals have more opportunities to deceive you with deals that are too good to be true, lookalike websites, or outright fake retail companies created to scam you out of your hard-earned money or data. The Better Business Bureau provides helpful guidance on how to shop safely during Black Friday and how you can protect yourself from Cyber Monday scams. University IT urges you to be extra vigilant with incoming emails or text messages and avoid clicking any suspicious links.
