Winter break and holiday shuttle schedule

Reduced shuttle service to the River Campus will begin on Monday, December 23. Medical Center shuttles—Corporate Woods, evening staff shuttle, and Lot 24-Scottsville Road—will operate according to their regular schedules during winter break. There will be no shuttle service for any University shuttle routes on December 25 and January 1 due to University holidays. We celebrate the scholarly and service contributions of University community members to their fields. Recent award recipients include:
School of Nursing faculty members were recognized at the American Heart Association’s (AHA) annual Scientific Sessions. Salah Al-Zaiti, an endowed professor and the chair of cardiovascular nursing, received the American Heart Association’s Council on Cardiovascular & Stroke Nursing’s 2024 Research Article of the Year Award. Ann Leonhardt-Caprio, an assistant professor of clinical nursing, won the Excellence in Clinical Practice Award.
Robert Boyd, a professor of optics and physics, James Druckman, the Martin Brewer Anderson Professor of Political Science, and Maiken Nedergaard, the codirector of the Center for Translational Neuromedicine, have made it onto Clarivate’s 2024 list of Highly Cited Researchers.
Sally Norton, a senior associate dean for research, was named the 2024 Distinguished Nurse Researcher by the American Nurses Association–New York and the Center for Nursing at the Foundation of New York State Nurses.
Jill Wulfenstein, associate director of programming for Wilson Commons Student Activities, won the National Association for Campus Activities’ Patsy Morely Outstanding Programmer Award.

Spring 2025 dependent child tuition waiver application in myURHR Workday
Is your dependent child attending the University for the spring 2025 semester? Submit your dependent child tuition waiver application in myURHR Workday no later than 30 days after the start of the course. Click on “Benefits and Pay” under apps, then click on “Dependent Child Tuition Waiver Application” under suggested links. Eligibility requirements and additional information can be found on the tuition benefits website. If you already submitted your spring 2025 application in HRMS, you must submit a new application in myURHR Workday.
Valet service resumes at Strong Memorial Hospital on January 2
Starting on Thursday, January 2, valet parking service will resume at the main entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital for patients and visitors. Vehicles may be dropped off on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.; vehicle pick-up will be available 24 hours a day. The cost is $8 per car, cash or credit.
‘Conflict Without Contempt’ workshops
This workshop will introduce ways to engage in open, respectful conversations that foster transparency and authentic relationships. Attend from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, at the School of Medicine and Dentistry or Thursday, January 16, at Rush Rhees Library. The workshops are a preview of an upcoming three-month “Conflict Transformation” series starting in March. Sponsored by the Susan B. Anthony Center and the Office of Equity and Inclusion.
Chorus for people living with dementia
Do you know someone locally living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia? The Eastman Community Music School has opened registration for the spring 2025 session of the ENCORE Chorus, which provides an uplifting community united through music and camaraderie. The program welcomes people in early-to-mid stages of dementia together with their care partners. No singing experience is necessary. Supporters of this initiative include Eastman Performing Arts Medicine Center, the Aging Institute, the School of Nursing, the Department of Psychiatry Division of Geriatric Mental Health and Memory Care, and the Department of Health Humanities and Bioethics. Sessions take place on Mondays from 1 to 2:30 p.m., February 24 to May 19. Learn more and register here.
