Navigating memory and cognitive health

David Gill, an associate professor of neurology and chief of the Medical Center’s Division of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology, offers guidance for families facing difficult conversations and decisions associated with memory and cognitive challenges.

IN MEMORIAM

Flags will be lowered for Joseph Smith

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Thursday, February 6, for Joseph Smith, an environmental services worker in the Department of Environmental Services at Strong Memorial Hospital, who died on December 9. Smith joined the University staff in 2009.

2025–26 pilot award in aging research

The Aging Institute is soliciting grant applications to support up to two aging research projects focusing on basic or clinical aging research topics. It is anticipated that one award will be in basic aging research and one in clinical aging research. Pilot research that falls anywhere along the translational research continuum is welcome. The award level is up to $50,000 for one year per award. Find more information on the institute’s mission, vision, and priorities and how to apply.

January and February events at Eastman

World-class concerts and events return to the halls of the Eastman School of Music for the spring 2025 semester. These include many student ensemble performances—which are free and open to the public—and installments in the ticketed Eastman Presents Series. Talk on COMET platform

Lunaphore/Bio-Techne will present the talk “Leveraging the COMET Platform for your Spatial Multiomic Needs” on Monday, January 13, at 1 p.m. in the K-307 Auditorium (Room 3-6408), Medical Center. Register here to attend. Coffee and pastries will be provided. Faculty, trainees, and staff are encouraged to attend and offer feedback on these technologies after the presentation. Program on The Ghent-Bruges Book of Hours at MAG

Be transported to the world of beauty and devotion through The Ghent-Bruges Book of Hours, a new joint acquisition by the River Campus Libraries and Memorial Art Gallery.

On Thursday, January 30, join Anna Siebach-Larsen, director of the Rossell Hope Robbins Library and the Koller-Collins Center for English Studies, and Nancy Norwood, curator of European art at the museum, as they discuss and showcase this acquisition. Grant opportunities from the Institute for Music Leadership

The Institute for Music Leadership at the Eastman School of Music shares three grant opportunities for spring 2025. Contact the institute with questions and requests for application support.

  • The IML Mentorship Grant provides matriculated Eastman School of Music students with opportunities to receive funding and mentorship to encourage new thinking and the development of innovative ideas in music.
  • The AMP Up Grant supports matriculated Eastman School of Music students to build relationships and engage University and Rochester communities to develop new audiences and grow the impact for spring Eastman concerts.
  • The Paul R. Judy Center for Innovation and Research Grant supports innovative projects and research that focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion in all elements of the profession, with a prioritization of projects that advance anti-racism work in the arts. This grant is only open to Eastman School of Music alumni, faculty, staff, and students this cycle.
