FEATURE

Study identifies three ways to reduce child sexual abuse rates

A new study led by Jennie Noll, a professor of psychology and the executive director of the Mt. Hope Family Center, finds that local, community-wide education efforts can drastically lower the incidence of sexual abuse of children.


FOR STUDENTS

Graduate Writing Project writing retreat

The Graduate Writing Project is hosting an in-person writing retreat March 10–14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Writing retreats are designed for graduate students in the School of Arts & Sciences and the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences working on graduate-level writing, such as dissertations, theses, proposals, and publications. This structured writing experience offers guidance, accountability, community, and the option to work one-on-one with a writing consultant. Register online and email Liz Tinelli with any questions.

Student mindfulness facilitator training

The Mindfulness Facilitator Training Workshop for the spring semester takes place on March 14 from 4:40 to 6:20 p.m. in Genesee Hall, Room 325. The workshop will cover the history and science of mindfulness, how to lead trauma-informed practices, and provide troubleshooting tips to help you confidently guide others on their mindfulness journey. Open to all undergraduate and graduate students, but registration is required. Attendees will also be invited to apply for the Mindful U Executive Committee to take on a leadership role in promoting mindfulness on campus. Participants can earn Level 1 Medallion Credit for attending and Level 2 Credit when leading mindfulness sessions.

Alcohol education seminar

The UHS Health Promotion Office hosts an alcohol education seminar on Friday, March 21, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. to educate students about University policy, physiological effects, and harm-reduction strategies regarding alcohol. Register on CCC.

Applications due April 1 for Art New York spring 2026 semester

Earn credit for an internship in New York City that situates your program of study within the art world. Students in the Art New York program do not need to be art majors or minors; no previous art experience is required. As part of the program, students earn 16 credits through an internship (eight credits, 14–16 hours per week), a colloquium course (four credits), and a Studio Art course (four credits). Find more information about the program and apply by April 1.


FOR FACULTY AND STAFF

Styrofoam cooler clean-out

As part of its Laboratory Spring Cleaning Month agenda, the Sustainable Labs Initiative (SLI) is hosting a Styrofoam recycling event on Monday, March 10. Volunteers will collect Styrofoam for recycling from 9 to 11 a.m. in Sarah Flaum Atrium, School of Medicine and Dentistry, and from noon to 2 p.m. in Munnerlyn Atrium, Goergen Hall. Review these Styrofoam recycling guidelines before bringing your materials to the event.

Funding for student course development projects

Instructors are invited to apply for funding to work with an undergraduate student this summer to codevelop new learning materials or activities for a 2025–26 course that will enroll students in the School of Arts & Sciences or the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences. The Teaching Center provides the student with a summer stipend, on-campus housing, and up to $500 in materials. Applications are due March 24.

Health Care Leadership Development Program information session

Designed for Medical Center physicians, the Health Care Leadership Development Program offers a unique opportunity to sharpen your business acumen and strengthen your health care management skills, without the commitment of a full graduate degree program. The program’s targeted curriculum is taught by Simon Business School faculty. Medical Center faculty and staff with an advanced degree are encouraged to apply for the spring cohort. Admission priority is given to Medical Center leaders who plan to pursue all four modules. Cohort size is limited, so apply early.

Navigating communication gaps

Restorative Dialogues session

The Office of Equity and Inclusion and the Susan B. Anthony Center offer a spring semester Restorative Dialogues series, open to all University students, staff, and faculty. Explore restorative practices and share what’s in your heart and on your mind. This month’s theme is “Reflections on Culture: Lost and Found.” Register to attend the virtual session on Tuesday, March 11, from noon to 1 p.m.

Register for the Women’s Summit

The University’s Women’s Summit is a multi-day event designed to empower attendees through panel discussions, keynote speakers, and networking opportunities with spaces to connect and engage. All are welcome. Learn more and register here to attend March 27–29 in New York City.

Flourishing in Medicine Core online workshop

Register to attend the Flourishing in Medicine Core online workshop, April 14–May 19, designed to energize your clinical work while helping you find joy and resilience through honing your self-awareness and deep listening skills. No prior experience is required. Tuition reimbursement is available for University employees.
