The University has initiated national searches for two key leadership roles. Provost Nicole Sampson has tasked search committees to find the next dean of the School of Arts & Sciences and the vice provost and Andrew H. & Janet Dayton Neilly Dean of University of Rochester Libraries. These committees will collaborate with top national search firms to identify leading candidates. Kate Sheeran, the Joan and Martin Messinger Dean of the Eastman School of Music, will chair the search for the School of Arts & Sciences dean, while Wendi Heinzelman, dean of the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences, will lead the search for the new dean of the libraries. Warner School drop-in hours for seniors
The Warner School of Education and Human Development is holding drop-in hours for undergraduates interested in graduate school on Wednesday, May 7, from 3 to 5 p.m. in LeChase Hall, Room 239. Get help with your application, ask questions about graduate programs and scholarships, and more—no appointment is necessary. The Warner School accepts applications on a rolling basis. Open to all University instructors, this one-hour Teaching Center Zoom workshop offers a guided reflection and opportunity to share successes, surprises, and areas for improvement discovered during the spring semester. Instructors will learn how to use these reflections to identify and implement instructional changes for continued improvement as teachers. Annual Center for Bioethics conference
The third annual Paul M. Schyve MD Center for Bioethics “Family Matters/Families Matter: Ethical Considerations in Patient Decision Making” conference will be held on Friday, May 2, at the School of Nursing. New this year will be a pediatrics-focused half-day session on Saturday, May 3. Both will provide education opportunities on a range of ethical topics that are pertinent to healthcare and clinical practice. Free pre-registration ends today, April 30, but registrations will be accepted at the door.
Lotte Lenya Competition finals and concert
The final round of the 2025 Lotte Lenya Competition will take place in Kilbourn Hall at the Eastman School of Music beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 3. Eleven finalists representing seven countries and four continents will vie for the top prize of $25,000. At 7:30 p.m., the finalists return to Kilbourn Hall for a concert of crowd-pleasers and showstoppers. In-person and online audience members will determine the winner of the inaugural Audience Choice Award of $3,000. Free admission for all on a first-come, first-served basis.

Panel for early-stage investigators on managing professional responsibilities
The Rochester Early-Stage Investigator Network Program and the Junior Faculty Biomedical Research Association host an interactive panel discussion to provide early-stage faculty investigators with insights and strategies for effectively managing their diverse professional responsibilities, such as clinical practice, research, teaching, and administration. The panel will include a Q&A session and closing remarks. Register to attend on Thursday, May 22, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Natapow Room (1-9545), Medical Center.
Beckman Light Sheet Microscope Symposium
Researchers from the University and beyond are invited to the Beckman Light Sheet Microscope Symposium on Tuesday, May 27, from noon to 5 p.m. in Sloan Auditorium, Goergen Hall. The workshop, open to faculty and trainees, will introduce the newly developed single-objective light sheet microscope on the River Campus, as well as two other light sheet microscopes at the Medical Center. March with the University in Roc Pride 2025
Members of the University community and their families are invited to march in the Rochester Pride parade on Saturday, July 19. Line-up starts at 9:45 a.m.; the parade begins at 11 a.m. Find a full FAQ here, including information about shuttles, parking, and shirts. Shirts are the same as they have been for the past few years. If you need one, register by May 10 and indicate that you need a shirt on the form.
