New scholars program is a catalyst for undergraduate research on chemical sustainability
A cohort of Rochester undergraduate chemistry and chemical engineering students will gain crucial paid research experience through a new scholars program. Established this spring through a gift from Rochester Trustee Barbara Burger ’83, the Barbara J. Burger Chemical Sustainability Scholars will provide a new pathway for exploring professional interests during a 15-month research project. Above, Eva Ciuffetelli ’27, Sophia Dmytruk ’27, Justin Hao ’27, Jay-Brian Randone ’26, and Sameeha Sultana ’28 comprise the program’s first cohort.

A research team that includes Ignacio Franco, a professor of chemistry and of physics, says it has uncovered what it believes is “the world’s most electrically conductive organic molecule.” The discovery opens new possibilities for building smaller and more powerful and energy-efficient computing devices.

ECMS summer music lesson discounts
Eastman Community Music School‘s (ECMS) summer 2025 session runs from June 24 to August 2. Children of regular full-time and part-time faculty/staff are eligible for a 25 percent discount for musical instruction after the completion of one year of full-time service or two years of part-time service. This discount can be used for Summer Eastman Experience Programs or day camps. You can apply for this dependent child benefit by logging into myURHR Workday, selecting “Benefits and Pay” on the homepage, and then selecting “Dependent Child Tuition Waiver Application” under “Suggested Links.”

Yoga classes continue this summer
Whether you want to engage in mindful movement or learn techniques to regulate your emotions, these yoga sessions offer a balance of movement and mindfulness. All levels are welcome—just bring your mat and a desire to recharge. Classes run from May 12 to August 25, every Monday and Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Leibner-Cooper Room at the Goergen Athletic Center. Open to all full-time students and R-club members (part-time students, faculty, and staff). Classes are hosted by the Mindful University Project and Yoga Vibe’s experienced yoga teachers. Check out schedules and register for classes, or just drop in.
Improvements coming to Sibley Library catalog in fall 2025
Improvements are coming to the Eastman School of Music’s view of DiscoverUR to provide a tailored experience when searching for music-specific resources within the Sibley Library Catalog. The improvements will make locating musical scores, recordings, music databases, and other tools easier for musicians, composers, and music educators. The new view will be available in fall 2025.
