Eastman Institute for Oral Health to expand training and public health initiatives

Eastman Institute for Oral Health has been awarded a federal grant to develop a community-based training model to significantly increase dental care in underserved communities, and effectively train and expand the dental workforce to care for people with medically complex conditions and intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Bursar’s Office closing early on Thursday

On Thursday, July 24, the Bursar’s Office will close for the day at 11:30 a.m. Regular hours will resume on Friday, July 25.

myURHR reminder: Review org charts in Workday

The next time you log in to myURHR Workday, take a moment to review your org chart and ensure the correct manager is assigned. These charts, also called supervisory organizations, help drive important workflows. Department, faculty, and graduate coordinators can move employees, if needed, to appropriate managers using the Change Job process. If a manager doesn’t yet have a supervisory organization, the myURHR support team can create one. Find steps and support here.

Register for the Well-Being for Life and Learning training program

Developed by University content experts, the Well-Being for Life and Learning self-paced program offers guidance on recognizing students in distress, managing your compassion fatigue, suicide prevention, trauma-informed conversations, and more. Learn more and register for the training program here.

I-Corps for Semiconductor and Microelectronics Innovators conference

The I-Corps for Semiconductor and Microelectronics Innovators conference is open to researchers developing semiconductor innovations and provides the opportunity to talk to customers at SEMICON West to identify the best product-market fit. This NSF I-Corps conference-based course is led by the Interior Northeast I-Corps Hub and is hosted in partnership with the University and Syracuse University. Apply by August 20 to attend September 15 through October 15.

The University offers eligible faculty and staff access to subsidized backup care for children or adults through Care.com when regular care arrangements are unavailable. Find more information and start your request today.

Talk on the past, present, and future of Indian handlooms

The Office for Global Engagement, along with the Dogra Art Foundation: Supporting South Asian Art, hosts “The Past, Present, and Future of Indian Handlooms” with Pavithra Muddaya, a leading textile revivalist based in Bangalore. The event takes place on Wednesday, July 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hawkins-Carlson Room, Rush Rhees Library. Free and open to the public, but registration is required.

Car seat check event

Attend the next car seat check event on Wednesday, July 30, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to ensure that your child passenger seat or booster seat is installed correctly by nationally certified child passenger safety technicians. Email Erin Agnello or call (585) 471-1014 to book your appointment. The events take place in the upper loop of Golisano Children’s Hospital.

Friends of Strong ice cream fundraiser

Join Friends of Strong for its annual ice cream fundraiser in support of patient- and family-centered care at Strong Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, August 6, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. near the lower-level loop in front of Golisano Children’s Hospital on Crittenden Boulevard. Each two-scoop dish of ice cream is $7 (sprinkles included), and Bruster’s will donate 29 percent of the event’s sales. Find available flavors here. Advance tickets are recommended and can be purchased at the hospital gift shop. 312 Requisitions must be brought to the Friends of Strong office (1-1230) by 4 p.m. on August 1. There will also be day-of sales; cash and credit will be accepted.

‘The Art of Security’ DeTOUR at MAG

Join the Memorial Art Gallery’s security staff for a behind-the-scenes look at the high-stakes world of art protection during the “Guardians of the Gallery: The Art of Security DeTOUR.” Find more information and tickets to attend on Thursday, August 7, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Simon to offer two micro-courses on AI in August

Simon Business School is offering two micro-courses on AI this summer: Generative AI in Practice: Using AI to Solve Challenges in Your Work, which will take place online, Wednesdays, August 6, 13, and 20 from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom; as well as an iteration of the course tailored to healthcare professionals, Generative AI in Practice for Health Care Professionals, which will take place in-person, on the same dates listed above, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Both versions of the course cost $1,000, and University tuition benefits may cover 80 to 95 percent of the cost for eligible employees. Registration closes July 30. Reach out to the Simon admissions team with questions.

Shred Fest a success

A total of 14,480 pounds—or 7.24 tons—of paper was collected and recycled at the Sustainability Office’s 15th annual Shred Fest, held on July 18. See photos from the day.
