A recent study details how the UR Medicine primary care network—through a coordinated program led by Robert Fortuna, a professor of medicine and of pediatrics—reached a nearly 72 percent lung cancer screening rate.

Open Enrollment begins October 27 |
Open Enrollment begins Monday, October 27, and runs through November 10. This is your opportunity to enroll in your 2026 benefits and choose the options that best fit your needs for the year ahead. During this time, you can choose your health care plan, elect to contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA), adjust plan coverage, and enroll in group universal life insurance and other voluntary benefits.

Workshop on designing effective rubrics |
Open to all URochester instructors, this one-hour Teaching Center Zoom workshop provides best practices for designing rubrics to support equitable and efficient grading, on-target student work, and provide students with targeted and actionable feedback. Register here to attend on Friday, October 24, at noon.

Introduction to data services and digital scholarship at Sibley Library |
This one-hour session on Thursday, October 30, at 2:30 p.m. provides an overview of the resources, expertise, and project support available through Sibley Library’s digital scholarship and data services departments. Participants will learn about services related to digital project development, GIS and mapping, data management, data visualization, and more.

Lecture: ‘Five Things I Know About Investing’ |
Kenneth French ’78S (MBA), ’81S (MS), ’83S (PhD) shares key insights from his essay Five Things I Know About Investing on Friday, October 31, at 2 p.m. in the Sands Constellation Auditorium in Gleason Hall. There is no fee to attend, but advance registration is requested for the event, which is hosted by Simon Business School.

Veterans Day 5K, recognition ceremony |
Hosted by the Veterans Alliance and the University’s NROTC, the annual Veterans Day 5K takes place on Tuesday, November 11, from 6 to 8 a.m., beginning at Fauver Stadium. You can also join the run remotely from November 3 to November 11. Find details and register for either version of the run.
All are invited to attend the Veterans Recognition Ceremony on November 11, beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the Sarah Flaum Atrium, School of Medicine and Dentistry. Hosted by the Office of University Engagement and Enrichment, this event honors faculty, staff, students, alumni, and families who have served in the US Armed Forces. Learn more and RSVP.

Multi-factor authentication is coming to UR Student for authorized third-party users in early November. Numerous authentication options will be available, and instructions and resources will be emailed soon to all active authorized third-party users, as well as available online.

|
New project to cut energy use and reduce emissions |
Energy Services is optimizing the Central Utility Plant’s cogeneration system, which is responsible for producing much of URochester’s heat and energy. Read more about improvements to this system.

Stop by the office supply swap |
Join the Green Reps for an office supply swap on Wednesday, October 29, in the Flaum Atrium. All staff and faculty are welcome to drop off unwanted office supplies from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and pick up something “new” until 3 p.m. Learn more about accepted items and parking, and contact the Sustainability Office with questions.
