Richard Schulick, current director of the NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and chair of surgery at the University of Colorado, will join the Medical Center in April as chief clinical officer—a role designed to strengthen integration and coordination across the patient care enterprise.

The Artificial Intelligence company Anthropic has agreed to pay $1.5 billion to authors and publishers whose works were allegedly used without permission—approximately 500,000 books in total. UR Press has identified several titles that are included in the settlement, and the Office of the Vice President for Research encourages all faculty to check whether any of their books are listed on the official settlement site. On Saturday, October 25, College Town transforms into Halloween Town from noon to 2 p.m. Trick-or-treat at participating businesses and enjoy kettle corn, face painting, lawn games, and more.

Anne-Marie Algier, associate vice president for University student life and dean of students, will be hosting “The Dean’s View: Live!,” a virtual town hall for parents and families on Wednesday, October 29, from 8 to 8:45 p.m. Moderated by Dawn Bruner, director of parent and family relations, they will be joined with representatives across URochester to provide updates and answer questions. Attend a reception for the Bridge Art Gallery’s upcoming show, Happiness Is… on November 5, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Romano Room (1.9041), Medical Center.
