EAP Supervisor Series session on FMLA and other plans

Join UR Medicine EAP, Well-U, and Leave Administration to expand your knowledge of plans such as the Family Medical Leave Act, Paid Family Leave, workers’ compensation, and short and long-term disability on Wednesday, November 12, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Understand the eligibility requirements, employee responsibilities, and department responsibilities for each plan. This training is for individuals in supervisory or managerial roles only. Search for “EAP Supervisor Series” in MyPath to register.

Care.com benefits webinar

Celebrate 15 years of the Inspiration Project

Celebrate 15 years of collaboration, creativity, and community through the Inspiration Project, which pairs students with special-needs adults served by CP Rochester to create new, original written works. The free event, taking place today, November 5, features readings by this year’s group of volunteers, followed by a catered reception. Registration is requested.

Hugo Hopenhayn, a professor of economics at UCLA, gives the 56th annual Gilbert Memorial Lecture, “Demographics, Sectoral Change, and Firm Dynamics,” on Monday, November 10, at 5 p.m. in Bausch and Lomb Hall, Room 109.

Seminar with Health in Harmony founder

Kinari Webb, founder of Health in Harmony, presents “How Stethoscopes Can Also Heal the Lungs of the Earth” on Wednesday, November 19, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Class of ’62 Auditorium, School of Medicine and Dentistry. Register for this event, cosponsored by the Institute for Human Health and the Environment and the Department of Comparative Medicine.

Annual asthma, allergy, and pulmonary update conference

The 29th annual Asthma, Allergy, and Pulmonary Update, presented by the University and the Mary Parkes Center, is a one-day educational event designed to update healthcare professionals on the latest in asthma management. The event takes place at Hotel Canandaigua on Thursday, November 20. Find details and register.

Daily yoga classes

Daily yoga classes, offered by the Mindful University Project, are held in the Leibner-Cooper Room at the Goergen Athletic Center. Yoga mats and other props are available to borrow at all classes. There will be no classes during Thanksgiving break, November 26–30; the final day of classes will be December 17. Classes are free for all full-time students and open, for a small fee, to R-club members, including part-time students, faculty, and staff.

The Department of Biology hosts a panel discussion on career paths in biotech and pharma on Friday, November 7, at 10 a.m.

First-Gen Week ‘Self-Care Saturday’

Students can round out the end of First-Gen Week with a peaceful space to unwind and reconnect with themselves. The event takes place Saturday, November 8, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Go Green

E-Cycle Day collects nearly nine tons of electronics

The 18th annual E-Cycle Day successfully recycled 17,812 pounds of electronics, collected from 268 vehicles. Check out photos on the UR Sustainable Facebook page and stay tuned for next year’s event.

Join Team Green’s volunteer day

Help the Rochester community keep things out of landfills by volunteering at Greenovation, a local and volunteer-run reuse center. Students, staff, and faculty are invited to register for one-hour time slots from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 15.

America Recycles Day landfill tour

Join the Sustainability Office on Friday, November 14, for a visit to Waste Management’s High Acres Landfill in Fairport, where much of the University’s waste and all of its compost is received. Transportation is available. Learn more and reserve your spot.
