Winter weather is here, and URochester’s emergency preparedness teams are ready with the plans and tools that will keep campuses operational and community members informed during snowstorms or severe weather.

Rising complexity in pediatric patients is reshaping hospital care

New research shows that over the past two decades, inpatient care for children with complex chronic conditions has become far more intensive—and is now overwhelmingly concentrated in urban teaching children’s hospitals. The authors, led by Nathaniel Bayer, an associate professor of pediatrics, argue that these shifts necessitate changes in pediatric training, staffing, and Medicaid policy.

De-escalation 2.0 workshop at the Gandhi Institute

Hosted by the Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence, this workshop will lean heavily on participation and practicing more difficult and complex situations. Practice skills to reduce violence and help keep each other safe. RSVP to attend on Saturday, December 6, from 1 to 3 p.m.

URochester choir concert

The URochester concert choir, chamber singers, and gospel choir are coming together for a free concert, “Sun and Stars: Music of the Day and Night Skies,” on Monday, December 8, at 7 p.m. in the Interfaith Chapel on the River Campus.

Write-a-Thon

The Writing Fellows will be available to undergraduate students in the School of Arts & Sciences and the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences during Write-A-Thon, which takes place from 2 p.m. Sunday, December 7, to 2 a.m. Monday, December 8, in Rush Rhees Library, Room G-122.

School of Nursing open house

Meet School of Nursing faculty and current students, tour state-of-the-art skills and simulation spaces, and learn about scholarship and grant opportunities at an open house on Monday, December 8, from 5 to 7 p.m.
