Flags will be lowered for Elaine Hubbard |
University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department, and the flags atop the Eastman Theatre at the corner of Gibbs and Main Streets, will be lowered on Tuesday, February 10, for Elaine Hubbard, a professor emeritus at the School of Nursing, who died on December 9. Hubbard joined the University faculty in 1975.

Hidden magma oceans could shield rocky exoplanets from harmful radiation |
A new study from URochester researchers, including Miki Nakajima, an associate professor of earth and environmental sciences, suggests that molten rock deep inside so-called super-earths may generate powerful magnetic fields necessary for sustaining life.

Child Care Subsidy and your W-2 |
If you received a 2025 Child Care Subsidy award, note that the subsidy amount, along with any voluntary Dependent Care FSA contributions and backup care benefits, will be reported in Box 10 of your W-2. You should consult your personal tax advisor regarding any potential tax implications, particularly if you do not utilize the full amount of the award received. In addition, review IRS Form 2441 with your tax advisor to determine how to properly account for your Dependent Care FSA benefits.

The annual University Student Life Awards, also known as The Rockys, recognize undergraduate students and student organizations that have significantly and positively impacted URochester and surrounding communities through service to others, investment of talent and time, and pursuit of excellence. Nominations are due by Sunday, February 1, at 11:55 p.m. Sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students.
