Nominations are open through March 23 for the annual President’s Staff Awards. Celebrate a colleague whose dedication, service, or leadership makes the University and community stronger. Recognize their impact and contributions through the Witmer Award for Distinguished Service, the Meliora Award, the Staff Community Service Award, and the Lamar Riley Murphy Leadership Award.

Wilmot Cancer Institute’s Shared Resources hosts a lunch-and-learn town hall seminar on how to advance your cancer research career on Tuesday, March 10, at noon in the Ryan Case Method Room (1-9576), Medical Center. Deadline extended for Satcher Community Health Improvement Award nominations |
The deadline for faculty, staff, and community partners to nominate colleagues for the 17th annual Dr. David Satcher Community Health Improvement Awards has been extended to March 11. The awards recognize significant contributions to community health through research, teaching, practice, or service programs.

Presentation for patients with chronic pain |
Doug Guiffrida, a professor of counseling and human development at the Warner School of Education & Human Development, and colleagues from the Medical Center will present “The New Science Behind Chronic Pain: Your Body is Not Broken” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, at the Rochester Academy of Medicine, 1441 East Avenue. This presentation is designed for patients. A follow-up presentation for healthcare providers will be offered on June 18. Learn more and register to attend.

‘Make a Connection: 45+’ at MAG |
If you’re age 45 or older, join the Memorial Art Gallery on Friday, March 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. for “Make a Connection!,” an evening inspired by the art on view at the museum. Come ready to mix, mingle, and maybe meet someone who brings a little extra color to your canvas. Tickets are $15 or $5 with a MAG membership or a valid University ID.

Each week, we shine a spotlight on a faculty or staff member who has been recognized as a UR Star. Elizabeth Keller, a research nurse in the NYS Emerging Infections Program at the Center for Community Health & Prevention, was recognized for demonstrating Excellence.
“During my maternity leave last fall, Beth kept the team moving forward without missing a beat. Her work was completed ahead of schedule. Her strong collaboration, meticulous recordkeeping, and determination to maintain momentum made my transition back to work seamless. She skillfully managed iSA surveillance through a reporting issue and the government shutdown, ensuring all work was completed ahead of schedule. STAT News is once again pitting the year’s best biomedical breakthroughs head-to-head, and URochester is in the mix. Featured is a landmark study in Cell by Maiken Nedergaard, codirector of the Center for Translational Neuromedicine, which shows how the sleeping brain clears harmful proteins linked to Alzheimer’s disease. You can vote once a day throughout March in the STAT Madness competition.
