Focused Crucial Conversations for Mastering Dialogue takes place on Wednesday, March 18, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Helen Wood Hall. This one-day, interactive training equips participants with essential skills for handling high-stakes, emotional, or challenging conversations with confidence and respect.

Phelps Colloquium on opening the black box of regulation

Faculty can attend the Phelps Colloquium on Wednesday, March 18, in Eisenberg Rotunda, Schlegel Hall. A pre-reception takes place at 3:30 p.m., followed by a lecture at 4 p.m. by Joseph Kalmenovitz, an assistant professor of finance at Simon Business School. A Q&A session will follow from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Learn more and register.

Discussion on the documentary film Join or Die

Join a facilitated discussion inspired by the film Join or Die on the role of collective participation in strengthening democratic institutions. Attend in person on March 11 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. or virtually on March 13 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Watching the film on Netflix beforehand is encouraged but not required. This event is presented by the Office of University Engagement and Enrichment’s Better Together: The Constructive Dialogue Practice. Register today.

Especially for Educators workshops at MAG

Especially for Educators is Memorial Art Gallery’s series of professional development workshops designed for PreK–12 teachers of all subjects in public, charter, and independent schools, as well as educators in homeschools, informal, or non-traditional learning spaces. Attend free workshops on the museum’s newest acquisitions and artful thinking routines on Wednesday, March 11, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. or on Saturday, March 14, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Annual Saward-Berg Lecture

Attend the 25th annual Saward-Berg Lecture on Friday, March 13, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Ryan Case Method Room (CMR 1-9576), Medical Center, with a reception and lunch to follow. Albert Siu, a professor in the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, presents “From Journal Article to Policy Impact: A Case Study of Hospital at Home.” Find details and register to attend.

Be a presenter at the XR Research Symposium

Presented by the Center for eXtended Reality in partnership with Mary Ann Mavrinac Studio X, the XR Research Symposium showcases cutting-edge XR research and experimentation from across disciplines at URochester, Rochester Institute of Technology, and the broader Rochester community. Researchers, faculty, staff, and students are invited to submit proposals for lightning talks and a tabling and lab showcase. The event is on May 1, and the deadline to register as a presenter is March 15.

Lecture: ‘African Women Write Migration: Home, Belonging, and Transnational Mediation in Diaspora Literature’

This lecture by Pauline Uwakweh, a professor of literature at North Carolina A & T State University, brings together relevant interdisciplinary theories and perspectives on migration, identity, mobility, and transnationalism. Learn more and attend on Thursday, March 19, at 3:25 p.m. in the Humanities Center, Conference Room D, in Rush Rhees Library.

Participate in a research study on cognitive control

Healthy individuals aged 30 to 49 years old are needed to participate in a research study on cognitive control. This study involves a phone screening and, if qualified, two 90-minute MRI sessions on separate visits at the University’s Center for Advanced Brain Imaging and Neurophysiology. Participants will perform computer-based cognitive tasks while inside the MRI machine. Compensation is up to $160.
