Exhibit on the sculpture of John Rhoden opens at MAG

Discover the work of African American artist John Rhoden in Determined to Be: The Sculpture of John Rhoden, his first retrospective exhibition, which offers insights into his diverse creativity as well as his personal story. Learn more about the exhibit, on display at Memorial Art Gallery through August 23.

Data Skills series

Throughout April, the URochester Libraries Data Services Team will host a series of practical, hands-on virtual workshops focused on learning data skills. Activity guides with step-by-step instructions will be given to everyone who registers. Feel free to come even if you cannot stay the entire time.

Celebrate 50 years of Wilson Commons

Join University Student Life in celebrating 50 years of Wilson Commons. Stop by Hirst Lounge on Thursday, April 2, from noon to 3 p.m. to honor the iconic building, designed by the renowned architectural firm of I.M. Pei and opened in 1976. Enjoy cake, a special 50th anniversary giveaway, and more. Plus, hit songs from the late 1970s will be playing throughout the week in honor of this milestone.

International student summer planning office hours

The Basic Needs Hub will host weekly office hours through April 30 for undergraduate international students who have questions about planning for summer. Students may stop by the office at Lattimore Hall, Room 224B, on Tuesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Thursdays from 11 a.m. to noon, or Fridays from 1 to 2 p.m. to meet with BNH staff member Kaitlin Legg for guidance, support, and referrals. Relevant topics and questions include meeting basic needs during summer, searching for employment, deciding where to live, and more. Contact kaitlin.legg@rochester.edu with questions.

The Greene Center and the Washington Center host a virtual information session today, March 30, at 5 p.m. for students to learn about the Washington Semester.

On the anniversary of ‘Seward’s Folly’

The signing of the Alaska treaty on March 30, 1867, was dubbed “Seward’s Folly” or “Seward’s Icebox” by critics at the time, but is actually one of William Henry Seward’s most well-known and celebrated acts as Secretary of State.
