In memoriam

Flags will be lowered for Michael Marvin

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department, and the flags atop the Eastman Theatre at the corner of Gibbs and Main Streets, will be lowered on Tuesday, April 21, for Michael Marvin, a patient care technician for cardiovascular and progressive care nursing at Strong Memorial Hospital, who died on March 11. Marvin joined the University in 2011.

Documentary explores toll of becoming a doctor

The Healer’s Journey is a new documentary that chronicles five students’ experiences at the School of Medicine and Dentistry, while exploring alternative approaches to the rigorous process. You can catch the program on Saturday, April 11, at 4 p.m., Sunday, April 12, at 4 a.m., and Monday, April 13, at 5 p.m. on WXXI-TV and the WXXI and PBS apps.

Tune in today: President Mangelsdorf featured on WDKX radio show

President Sarah Mangelsdorf will be the guest on this morning’s episode of Check Your Health on Rochester radio station WDKX 103.9 FM. The show is a weekly production featuring URochester faculty and staff, hosted by Vice President for Community Partnerships Shaun Nelms, in conversations about the connections between the University and the Rochester community. The live broadcast begins at 10 a.m. A recording will be available on the Check Your Health website.

Supervisor Series session on using EAP in supervision

The spring UR Medicine EAP Supervisor Series concludes with Using EAP in Supervision, on Wednesday, April 15, from noon to 1 p.m. This session will provide managers with an overview of EAP and will also help improve their ability to recognize employees dealing with personal problems that are affecting their performance. Search for “EAP Supervisor Series” in MyPath to register.

April Blackboard newsletter

Review information about recent updates to Blackboard, as well as tips for finalizing your Blackboard gradebook in the April newsletter. Instructions for entering final grades in UR Student are also provided. You’ll also learn more about the migration from Blackboard Original to Blackboard Ultra. If you have a Blackboard course or organization that is still in Original, reach out to talk about a migration before it’s too late.

Out of the Darkness Campus Walk for suicide prevention

The Sheftall Lab in the Department of Psychiatry and UR Active Minds invite all to join the University’s inaugural Out of the Darkness Campus Walk in support of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Learn more and join or support a team on April 12 on the River Campus.

Wilmot Shared Resources lunch and learn seminar

Wilmot Cancer Institute’s Shared Resources hosts a lunch-and-learn seminar, “Tips and Tricks for Interpreting Flow Cytometry Data,” on Tuesday, April 14, at noon in the Lower Adolph Auditorium (1-7619), Medical Center. Students, staff, postdocs, and PIs are encouraged to attend. Lunch will be provided. Get the details and register.

Industry Insights on Collaboration panel discussion

This panel discussion, designed for faculty and postdocs, will share brief insights on how companies engage with academia and offer guidance on building partnerships that are valuable both within their organizations and across the wider industry. Find more information and register to attend on Monday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Ryan Case Method Room (1-9576), Medical Center. A networking reception will follow.

Student Mindfulness Committee

Undergraduate and graduate students can connect with like-minded peers, deepen their mindfulness practice, and participate in meaningful conversations. The committee meets every other Friday from 11 a.m. to noon in Douglass 401, with the next meeting on Friday, April 10. Register on CCC.

BIC-TURE This! collage-making workshop

Open to all URochester undergraduate and graduate students, the Burgett Intercultural Center’s BIC-TURE This: Collage-Making Workshop takes place on Friday, April 17, at 7 p.m. No prior experience is needed, and all supplies will be provided for those who register by April 14.

Weather station will be tested today

The University’s new weather station will be tested today, April 9, at 4:30 p.m. Located on River Campus on the Towers Athletic Field in the Brian F. Prince Athletic Complex, the weather station’s horn will sound twice for 10 seconds to test the lightning alarm, and then for 30 seconds to test the tornado alarm. Faculty, students, staff, and visitors do not need to take any action as part of the test. Find more information on the weather station.

Cheer on Rochester’s varsity teams at home contests scheduled for this coming week. Find more information on the Athletics website calendar and social media channels. Events are weather-dependent and subject to change.
