New state grant supports staff career advancement

The University has been awarded a $3.8 million Healthcare Education and Life-Skills Program grant from New York State to expand career opportunities for employees and help fill high-demand healthcare roles. This funding builds on the University’s Career Pathways Program, which supports eligible staff who pursue high-demand careers with education costs, including tuition, fully covered.

Singer Family Prize celebrates four educators who inspire and motivate

Four high school teachers who inspired and influenced URochester seniors from the Class of 2026 have been chosen to receive the annual Singer Family Prize for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching.

Many ways to win in the University-wide wellness challenge

Get moving and get prizes throughout Bloom, Well-U’s University-wide wellness challenge. Each week in May, Well-U will draw multiple winners for all fitness levels. Choose from Fitbit Versas, Petzl headlamps, popular drinkware, Lego kits, sweatshirts, and more. Get registered before Monday, May 4, when logging begins. Have questions? Join a virtual Q&A session on Wednesday, May 6, at noon.

Generative AI Teaching Group

Open to all URochester instructors, this program discusses the implications of generative AI for teaching and learning. Participants will consider how to revise courses in response to generative AI, and if and how to integrate generative AI into student or instructor work. Appropriate for instructors who have never used generative AI and those who have used it extensively. Learn more and register.

Retiree benefits webinar

The Office of Total Rewards hosts a webinar on Thursday, April 30, at 1 p.m. to cover eligibility for retiree benefits, health and dental insurance, Medicare, enrollment periods, and other benefits offered to URochester retirees. Register to attend.

Well-U’s heart-focused programs

Improve your daily energy and well-being while living with heart failure, A-fib, coronary artery disease, or a past stroke. Eligible employees can register for one-on-one sessions with Well-U’s condition management coaches and earn $150 upon completion.

Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration Day at MAG

Join the Memorial Art Gallery for Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration Day on Sunday, May 3, from noon to 4 p.m. Embrace music, art, culture, community, and more. Admission is free.

Volunteer as a Zero-Waste Ranger

Join the Sustainability Office as a Zero-Waste Ranger on Saturday, May 16, to help ensure materials are properly sorted as recyclable, compostable, or trash at departmental Commencement receptions. Sign up here.

For students

Destress Fest

All URochester students can join Health Promotion and River Campus Libraries today, April 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. for an end-of-the-semester Destress Fest.

Donate items during move-out

Students living in a University residential building can donate clothing, unopened toiletries, and nonperishable food through “Move-Out Cleanout,” running now through May 17. And, on May 9 and May 17, donate larger items like furniture, lamps, mirrors, and more by visiting “Dump and Run” events happening at select residences. Find details here.

Meliora Scholar applications open

First-year URochester students are invited to apply to be a Meliora Scholar. This selective program funds independent research in the humanities and humanistic social sciences. Students receive faculty mentoring, take part in enriching activities, and join a vibrant peer community. Apply by May 15.

Go Green

Natural lawn care: A growing commitment

Today, 60 percent of the University’s lawns are maintained organically, and Horticulture & Grounds is steadily progressing toward its ambitious goal: to convert 100 percent of campus lawns to organic or natural care by 2027.
