Why is pancreatic cancer so difficult to treat? New clues emerge |
Pancreatic cancer can remain quiet for years, developing undetected before causing symptoms that lead to a diagnosis. Even after a surgeon removes a pancreatic tumor, other cells often hide and erupt later. A new study led by Darren Carpizo, a professor of surgery, of biomedical genetics, and at the Wilmot Cancer Institute, reveals a discovery about why and how this happens—with the goal of targeting pancreatic cancer with newer immunotherapy drugs.

Flags will be lowered for Karen O’Shea |
University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department, and the flags atop the Eastman Theatre at the corner of Gibbs and Main Streets, will be lowered on Thursday, May 21, for Karen O’Shea, a primary care advanced practice provider, who died on April 10. O’Shea joined the University in 1997.

Shop at the Friends of Strong Gift Shop by Cloverkey during Midnight Madness, from Friday, May 8, at 7 a.m. until Saturday, May 9, at 1 a.m. The Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters ATM Coffee Stand will be open during regular hours and will have extended nighttime hours from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., with limited drink options.

Seven companies being boycotted over Trump policies |

“Boycotts are an attempt to influence a company’s behavior by threatening its sales and reputation,” says David Primo, the Ani and Mark Gabrellian Professor and a professor of political science and business administration. When successful, they can create a short-term hit to the company’s stock price. “Most boycotts, though, fizzle out, so part of the challenge for investors is figuring out which ones have legs.”
