While you were sleeping: URochester reshapes the science of sleep

URochester researchers and clinicians are helping the world understand the science of sleep—including how it might be one of the most consequential forces in human health.

The cover story in the spring 2026 issue of Rochester Review shines a (night)light on these discoveries that have helped unlock the mysteries of why we sleep and how we can improve our sleep, chronicles a night in the sleep lab, and explores the significance of lullabies.

Flags will be lowered for James Aquavella

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department, and the flags atop the Eastman Theatre at the corner of Gibbs and Main Streets, will be lowered on Tuesday, June 30, for pioneering ophthalmic surgeon James Aquavella, the Catherine E. Aquavella Distinguished Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, who died on May 14. Aquavella is remembered as a devoted doctor, a forward-thinking researcher, mentor, and University supporter.

TEAMS Program applications
